Yup- we're planning on our 4wks of story hours, 3days per wk depending on child's age
Have 6wks of crafts planned; Have 2 entertainers planned
Registration is the wk after kids get out of school - June 24-27
Kids pledge to read 15mins/day for 5wks of the summer. There will be an end of the summer reading party mid Aug.

The only thing that did change was the library will be closed on Sats & Mons 10wks of the summer w/plans to reopen Mons after Labor Day

(Now I gotta see whats up for the older kids as DS is now too old to be in the children's program.)

Does your library not normally do a summer reading program? Our libraries around here always have. Our local library actually does a lot more than it sounds like yours is doing. They start the week after next and continue it until school starts back. They have 1 or 2 crafts each week, 1 or 2 guest performers each week (magicians, clowns, zookeepers with a few animals, dancers, cowboy storytellers, musicians, etc), 3 story hours each week, and 2 carnivals during the summer. It's a great program and really encourages the kids to reach their summer reading goals.

Good luck with your program!

Anything to get a child reading has my two thumbs up support! Of course, my specialization was Reading when I received my teaching drgree.

The only problem I have with our library is the fact the do not provide interpreters at all children's programs so our deaf kids can participate. What a shame.

In the process of planning ours. What is your theme? We are doing Reading Road Trip and each week will be a different type of vacation spot. Our is shorten than yours, only the month of July. Twice a week, with stories and a craft each time. We only have one show planned, the last day of the program.

Our libraries do this every summer. My kids have done it since before they could read. :)

there was an artical about it in the paper, but it was to long to read

This is the summer of Harry Potter for my 9 year old. Order of the Phoenix comes out the day after school ends, and it will probably take him close to a month to read it. We probably won't need to go to the library until August, and then I think we'll focus on history. That's the one subject I don't think his school covers adequately.
