Entire family got sick!

I have to ask about the trip insurance--Is it the one you get from Disney when you purchase the package or is it something totally different???

And if it is different where do you get it from??

I believe that it was food poisoning you had based on the timeframe---You all ate the same--You ALL got sick----If it was a stomach virus it would have been staggered as another poster said(Gone thru that to many times to not know the difference!)
I hope you will be able to get some of your trip back and that this hasn't turned you off WDW for good!

when i went last year my 2 year niece got sick and was having ceizures so we had to take her to the e.r. :guilty:

I Got some sort of stomach bug the first night of our trip last year. I only got sick the first night, but the heat and all the other rides just took it out of me, hoping for better luck this year. Good luck with the trip insurance. :sunny:

Feel very badly for you. Hope you get the chance to go back to WDW and prove that WDW is the Happiest Place on Earth.

I'm so sorry your trip was ruined, I hope you and your family start feeling better soon. Good luck with the trip insurance, any money you get back would be a great start for another vacation to make up for this one.

We were at WDW in late May/early June and my DH had an awful stomach bug. It took days before he felt better and by that time we were home. I talked to several families while we were there and they also had sick family members. I think since we are spending so much on our vacation and don't want to miss it we tend to hit the parks before the bug is truly gone and then pass it off more than we would at home. There are so many things we touch and come in contact with so many people in a day that it's so easy to pass all these germs around.

I feel so bad for you, I'm so sorry. I know what it's like to go on the trip of a lifetime, all the planning, excitement, etc. I can't imagine having it ruined like that! I hope the trip insurance thing works out. PLEASE give Disney another try--it can be the most magical place on earth. Hope everyone is recovering well! Thinking of you.

i am SO sorry to hear about what happened to you. that is a very sad story indeed. :sad2:

This was our first - and maybe only - trip. We had three good days, had dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review, and 2 hours later we were all very, very sick. We spent the next three days in our room with no food in complete misery. We finally had to have a doctor come to the room. I have never been so sick in all my life. Our flight home yesterday was pure misery. I am still so sick that I can't function. I haven't had anything to eat since Saturday. If I wasn't so dehydrated I would cry. This trip cost a fortune. We were on the dining plan, so we lost tons of money in uneaten meals. Father's Day was the worst day of all. We don't know if it was food poison or stomach virus, but either way our trip was the worst ever. Our seven year old said, "Mom, they are wrong. Disney isn't the Happiest Place on Earth. Home is. Can we please go home?"

This was our only summer vacation. I am very depressed.

Got get a prescription to Zofran RIGHT NOW. We got sick at Disney and I wound up in the emergency room with gastroenteritis. They gave me a prescription for this stuff (anti nausea, dissolves on tongue) and it was MAGIC.

Zofran

It saved our vacation.

Oh, oops, just read you just got home.

I'm so sorry you had a bad time.

Just think, next trip HAS to be better.

Can kids take this? I think I'll travel with a bottle from now on!!!

Yes, kids and pregnant women can take it (although check with your pediatrician/obgyn for confirmation on that-I'm not a doc). We had a friend take it for very bad morning sickness, and our daughter for the stomach bug.

I would also recommend writing a letter to guest relations, someone on the DVC board that got sick did so and got a nice response.

On June 18th, my 26 yr old daughter got a stomach bug, vomiting 2x and diarrhea for 2 days. On June 21st, I got sick and was quite a big sicker than she was. On June 23rd, my 2 year old grandson spiked a fever of 103.9 at Epcot, we took him to the Infirmary there and they got us a ride back to the resort. He vomited several times that night but recuperated much quicker.
The infirmary nurses, whom were great, I might add, said a nasty stomach bug was going around.

We were staying at the Caribbean Beach resort.

Wonder if anyone else will care to post.

What a lousy deal. But what a smart move to get trip insurance.

From the posts (and my own experiences), it seems to be commonplace. Maybe it's the water? Something is wrong. There are way too many people getting sick in or around Disney.

We just got back from a quick trip, and no one got sick. But the last time we went in Halloween 2005 (I think I posted this before I left), my husband got a bug that lasted for a while (and caused him to drop 20 lbs.). Gastroenteritis, possibly from a parasite. He almost lasted the trip, the illness becoming pretty bad the last day. He thinks it was a CrackerBarrel event, but who knows.

Now, we've done a decent amount of traveling, and we've found that Florida seems to be a frequent problem. This time DH packed like we were traveling to a third-world country. He actually packed leftover Flagyl, stomach pills, lysol--you name it! When we were there, we ate pretty simply, unless we were at an upscale restaurant--even then he was careful to not drink the water or anything with ice cubes (and at 95 degrees that was a bummer). We drank bottled water we brought from Publix, cokes in cans or bottles, and he even avoided iced coffee. He did not get sick.

But you know what happened? He broke a tooth on our last day there. Go figure! Poor guy can't leave his house without some incident.

I have a feeling my next Disney trip will be solo!

Is that now DH is willing to go back sooner than we had planned before. It looks like we will try again next year!!!!! :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

Y'know, I'm curious, too, about how many people have gotten sick at Disney over the past few months-I think I'll start another thread with a poll and we'll see. I think I'll stick to gastrointestinal sick, just to keep it specific...

Also, for those of you that might have the misfortune to have this happen on WDW trips, make sure you contact guest relations at your resort while you are there. Even without trip insurance Disney might be willing to refund you some of the money on unusued days on park hoppers and dining plan credits. Disney has some of the best customer service and they strive to help as much as they can. Since it would appear that the OP's family got sick from food poisoning they might have worked with them to some extent. Especially given the proof of a doctor's visit and the unused tickts and ddp. I am so sorry so many have gotten sick, I remember a while back the Disney Cruise Line had this problem, I think its just so many people in close proximity, sharing the air and surfaces on rides, rooms, restrooms, buses you name it. What a shame, I hope you get to go back very soon TruBlu!

My DS9 was sick with a really bad sore throat and swollen tonsils when we were at WDW in May. We were going on the Disney Magic for a week long cruise 2 days later and decided that we better have him checked out to make sure he didn't have strep. He hadn't been sick in almost 6 months (at that time he had a stomach virus that went through this area 3 different times over the fall/winter) and I couldn't believe he was not feeling good. He didn't even know about the cruise and I was terrified we wouldn't be able to go if he had strep. DH took him to an urgent care nearby and said it was just loaded with sick people. They were there for almost 4 hours and DH wouldn't let DS move or touch anything since there was so much coughing and vomitting going on. I was with our DS5 at MK and felt so horrible I didn't even want to ride rides without them. I kept calling for an update to see if ds had been seen and dh kept telling me about all the people and just how sick some were. He said if ds9 wasn't truly sick when they got there, he would be when they left! He said a couple times ambulances even came to take people to the hospital. DS was finally seen and his rapid strep was negative. The doctor told DH that DS had the "Disney Crud" and gave us an antibiotic and cold medicine as a "precaution." The doctor told DH that urgent care facility is where Disney sends all their sick guests from resorts and CM's. DS still had swollen tonsils after we were home a week and when I took him to his pediatrician they said he was "seriously strep positive." He took the entire course of antibiotics before and during the cruise.
