Just wanted to "heads up" everyone using the coupon to make sure the booth attendant takes the coupon at checkout. Had a rate of $97 for week of May 15th (EA), and on our credit card they charged us $157!!! When I inquired, they responded that our ENT coupon was not attached, and they mistakenly charged us for a full size. I told them that I had asked the attendant twice if he was sure he didn't need the coupon, and he said to "just keep it, it's already on there".
Just be careful!!
FYI-they did tell me they will credit my card back the difference.

QUESTION:

What did the receipt say that you got when you returned the car at the airport. Did it say 157 or your quoted 97?

We used National Emerald Aisle and gave them the coupon when we checked out of the parking lot on arrival. Had no issues at all and we were charged exactly what was quoted. Defintiely give it to them when leaving the airport. When we dropped the car off we did not get a receipt form what I remember, just pulled up in the drop off lane and handed over the keys. Of course there were a few things going on and DH might have gotten something, but I doubt it would have listed the price and we did not have to wait for anything to be printed out. Until the charge showed up we had no idea what they were going to charge the card. In fact they did not charge it until the Monday after our Friday drop off.

The attendants that check the car in have a hand held device. It prints out a receipt on the spot. It listed our quoted price........

I had a terrible experience with National last week. I had a car booked for $212 for the two weeks I was there, great rate I thought.
I picked out my car from the Emerald Aisle and checked out at the booth. The woman did something wrong and the amount came to $283. She didn't want to redo the paperwork so she wrote on it to credit me when I brought the car back in.
I brought the car back and the woman with the hand held thing gave me a receipt for $384.
I went to the booth to get the right amount credited to me and the manager said that even thought I had Emerald card we had two drivers and I had to pay the additional amount for him. I showed them the Emerald card and the rules for 2nd driver and he refused to credit me back the money. I had to get another manager who also refused to credit me.
I then insisted on another manager and this manager was wonderful. He credited me so my total due for the car for the two weeks was $205, $7 less than the original charge.
He tried over and over to show the other two guys the rules about 2nd drivers but they just couldn't get it. They didn't understand and wouldn't listen when it was explained to them.
So when check your little receipt when you get the car and bring it back, National doesn't always give you what they quote. Peggie

Great advice. I've also posted on at least 2 occasions, to make sure they take that coupon from you and keep it. Because I was told if they don't have the coupon with the rest of your papers, they don't have to give you the discount.
Last week, they did keep the coupon without me reminding them. Maybe they remember me or I have that look on my face "please don't hand that coupon back to me again" :)

Sorry a little OT - but if you are an Emerald Member, can you have two drivers (over 25) and not pay any extra. Can anyone send me a link to where I could find this info.????

Thanks

The second driver has to be a spouse or immediate family member who is living with you at the address listed on your Emerald Club account.

I've tried twice to call National and get this question answered. Maybe you can help me. If I am an Emerald Member, and I have a cupon, can I go straight to the alsie and choose my car and give the attendent my cupon, or do I have to wait at the counter inside the terminal?

I've always gone to the aisle, picked the car, and given the coupon to the attendant when I check out.

I think they took it off the website. You need to get the coupon from the actual Entertainment book. I don't understand why they even had it online. The entertainment book wants to sell their books, why would they give away the coupon online?

You should always get a receipt from the attendent at dropoff. It lists all the charges broken out. If you walked away before they printed it, you could have ran into problems than the charge, you would have no proof that you actually returned it.

I wish they would give a printed confirm when taking the car, confirming all is correct. I always ask if the rate they are looking at is the same as I have on my printed confirm I have with me, but all they can/will give you is a verbal. 'yes, it is'. A printed one would make me more comfortable, but apparently is not available. I always get the printed receipt at dropoff, did find an error once, had to go to counter to get corrected, a pain. But once is not too bad considering all my National rentals over the years.

They have taken off of the web site. The coupon now says that it can only be used 1 time per year. In the past, entertainment.com members (book buyers who register online) have been able to print more online. THe problem is that members gave out the link to non members, who posted it here.

If you buy the book, you have many coupons to choose from and they pay for the book in one use.

Does anyone have an Entertainment coupon for 2006 for National that they are not using? I would LOVE to have one if you can spare, PM me!
THANKS!!!!!

duds

since it says only 1 time per year.....the 20 $ coupon can only be used once?

they have two of them in the enetertainment book....!

when you use the entertainment link ......it says the coupon is good until december 31 2006 but the code they input when they take you to the national website is "this years coding"

alamo seems to still be allowing the printing of coupons from the web, maybe that will change too if it is posted all over ....!

Bob, pm me your address if you want me to send you an extra I printed out, good until 12/31.
Someone was selling them on eBay..I wonder if that is why they took them off.

They are still honouring the printed coupon right? I don't need tear one out of a book? We have a ressie with them for Dec 16th and I printed the coupon off earlier in the year. I just don't want any surprise expenses when I get down there. (Should I bring a stapler and force them to staple the paperwork together? :rotfl: )
