What do you do to keep your kids entertained while waiting in long lines or for shows? I am looking for some suggestions on what has worked for others :)

How old are the kids?

My oldest is into finding Hidden Mickeys or Disneyland fun facts books. With my littlest ones, if its a super long line we try to avoid the ride. I always have snacks or color books from the dollar store if we are staking out seats for fireworks for awhile.

a box of raisins kept my DD well occupied. She would eat some, ask for a drink, play with the box, eat some more...she is a very ACTIVE child and this seemed to work!

My oldest is very observant and a real details girl so she loves looking and the theming in line and for hidden mickeys. My youngest is 3 and wants only to snack or be held.

Two words: Mickey Suckers! They sell them in bunches of 5 and they work like a charm. Each girl would get them as soon as we get in line for Toy Story and they'd go to town the entire time. But that's the only real long line we'll wait in with a 2 year old. Otherwise, little snacks, stickers and bubbles have worked for my little ones.

I agree!!! In fact my DS is enjoying one right now as I type and it's been 11 months since our last trip. Not the same sucker, LOL, one I discovered in the back of the pantry. Seems anything edible in the shape of a Mickey Head gets an A+.

Great question. I was wondering the same thing. We will bring my husband's ipod touch and my daughter's ds to help keep them entertained.

I like the idea of Hidden Mickeys, snacks to keep energy like trail mix or lollie pops that take forever to finish like rock candy. I'm a big kid of 25 and I used my iPhone to keep me entertained. I've seen kids in line with a Nintendo DS if they have one. For older kids, Disney has games like Kingdom Hearts. Head phones with a mp3 player. Things as simple as looking at park maps and asking the kids what their favorite things are.

Ipod touch or iphone for us. Unfortunately sugar exacerbates the problem for our kid. Also, sometimes we split up. For example, the TSMM line has an insertion point near the midway games that shaves a bunch of the line depending on how they've arrange the queue. Only one of us waits through the entire queue and the rest join at that point. Usually the kids are sent for a bathroom break.

We've done much of the above (DS, iTouch, look at pics on the digital camera) with DS (now age 8), but we especially like playing the "Disneyland/Disneyworld Alphabet Game." Each player has to think of a ride, restaurant, shop, character, or something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. No two people can have the same answer. If your child is old enough, this can eat up lots of time. :) It works for other topics too. Harry Potter is another version that we play. (We usually skip X. )

I've been thinking about this, too. Our 4-year-old won't be so difficult to keep busy, but the 1-year-old probably will be. So I was thinking of looking for hidden mickeys, or animals, etc. I LOVE the sucker/snack and bubbles ideas!!!

What great ideas! We have a ds and my iphone. I will try the hidden mickey's thing too, but I don't know how long that will interest my boys.

My daughter plays on her trampoline and jungle gym while in line. She won't be able to do it much longer, she will be too heavy for me soon, lol. She climbs all over me and she jumps and I sling her into the air with her arms. Tires me out, but it entertains her and we bond too.

Ds 5 doesn't need entertaining. We just talk. DD I carry and we chat and look at everything around us. We don't do long lines though. We do fp for what we can, do the less popular rides (snow white, pinnochio) and wait until later in the evening to do the more popular non fast pass ones. The later it is, the shorter the lines. In general though sticker books are a great distraction. They have some on amazon that are small and themed and they are usually 1.50 and buy 3 get one free. I'll look up the brand if anyones interested.

I was so worried last year when we went for the first time with our just turned 2 year old regarding staying in lines. At home, she couldn't even handle a short line at the bank or at the grocery store. But at Disneyaldn we never had a problem in line. It was amazing. She was so into checking everything out and looking at the ride and the other people. But I did have some snacks and pinwheels and stickers and such just in case, but never had tro use one of them. I was amazed. We'll see how it is when we go next in the summer. Good luck!!!

I was thinking just this! We talk when we are in line. It actually is nice 'down time' from hoofing it from one attraction to the other.
