When renting with Enterprise, I konw that the spouse if a free additional dirver. Does the spouse have to be present at time of rental? We are flying into Tampa adn renting out of Clerwater (saving over $450) so my husband is going to take a cab and get the minivan.

You need to show a driver's license for all drivers, so they need to be present at the rental.

They allowed us to bring a photocopy of the driver's license.... at more than one Enterprise rental location and more than one time and it was never a problem! I would call them because they told us that was completely satisfactory....they did not need both of us as long as they had a legible copy of the license. We have used Enterprise here at home while the car is being repaired after an accident or while in the shop for work and many times while traveling. We always get that same info, only need one person but good photocopy of the other license! Good Luck!!

I have done a pic of my DH's DL sent to me via text message and they have accepted that.

Thanks. I guess we will skip the additonal driver then since I was going to stay at Tampa with my MIL, son and baggage.

You can be added as additional driver at anytime. So, after you get the van, you could stop by any Enterprise station and get added.

This is the official additional driver policy for Enterprise:

All additional drivers must meet all renter requirements.
Appear at the rental counter with the primary renter.
Present a valid driver's license.
Present a major credit card in their name at the time of rental, or meet the locations cash qualifications requirements.
An additional daily fee will apply for Additional Drivers.
Note: There is no additional driver fee in the US or Canada for a spouse, domestic partner (either same or opposite sex), or surrogate driver for a mobility impaired renter.

Note: State law in California, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, Oregon, and Wisconsin allow the spouse to be an automatic authorized driver under all circumstances

Apparently every location doesn't follow policy. I suppose you could call and ask.
