I saw my OB/GYN yesterday for my annual. She found an enlarged lymph node above my collar bone, but no where else. I have not been ill recently. I do suffer from hay fever right now. I can't find anything that says allergies can cause this.
I have an appointment with a general surgeon on Tuesday morning. They were insistant that I make the appointment before I left the office.
Any suggestions, experience?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My son had one last year with a huge knot in it. We took him to our doctor and even though he wasn't feeling ill, he told me that it probably was just something was dragging down his system. We were to watch it and come back if it grew or didn't go down in a week or so. It slowly disappeared.

Having said that, if your doc says to go have it checked, I would do it. Just don't be too concerned.

I had an enlarged lymph node removed from behind my ear. It was biopsied and was benign.

The ob/gyn probably just wants to make sure that if god forbid it is something, the sooner they catch it, the better off you'll be.

That's an usual place for a lymph node. I was told that the ones that are to be taken care of right away are any found in your armpits, groin and neck.

Hope this helps, please try not to worry and get it checked out.

I wouldn't worry too much. I had one in my neck a few years ago but no other symptoms. My GP took blood and I had an infection. After a round of antibiotics the lymph node return to its normal size.

I have 3 that have calcified, and are always enlarged. No biggie. Don't worry too much, I know its hard.

Prayers and pixie dust,
Michelle

I had one in my armpit recently. I was so upset that my doctor also got a little crazy and was going to send me to a surgeon to have it removed and biopsied and also send me for a mammogram. Then she got a grip and put me on antibiotics but I still had to have the mammogram. After lots of stress and some confusion it turned out to be an ingrown armpit hair!!! Definitely go and have it checked but try not to worry too much.

When DS was 16 he had one on his neck, under his jaw. Dr gave antibiotics, didn't help. Outpatient surgery, yanked it, benign. Dr. said that we all have lots of nodes in that area and sometimes an infection gets going in there and they swell up.

DS now 23, living a perfectly normal life; well, as normal as he gets! :p

Thanks for the encouragement. It is good to know other people have funky things that turn out all right.

I think DH is worrying enough for both of us. I am just frustrated that I can't find more on the internet. Being a nurse, I like to know what is going on.
