Are they supposed to soggy? I don't remember them being this soggy. What am I doing wrong? :confused3

I'm spooning on pizza sauce, sprinkling on grated cheese, adding pepperoni slices and baking in a 350 oven for 10 minutes.

Do I toast the muffins in the toaster first? Should I be broiling instead of baking? I know, I know ... I sound like a complete, incompetent DOLT ... But please, for the love of Ragu, help!

Thank you.

I bake mine at 350 deg. for 15 mins and then turn the broiler on for a min or two to crisp them up. :goodvibes

I usually broil them. By the way, I noticed you mentioned Ragu. I have noticed that Ragu has gone downhill. At least here in Canada. It used to be our family's favourite sauce for years. I have noticed lately that the colour has changed and the sauce is so watery/runny that it looks as if a cup of water has been poured in the jar.

I thought it was my imagination, but my friend commented to me as well.

Sorry to ramble on:rotfl:

My boys used to love these after school.
Toast the bagel or muffin first, then spoon on the sauce.
I used to buy pizza sauce, not jarred spagetti sauce. the pizza sauce is in a smaller jar right near the spagetti sauce but it is much thicker so it doesn't make the bread as soggy.
We always added mozarella and parmesean and sliced pepperoni.

I toast them for a bit in the oven first and then put the sauce and cheese on and then cook them a bit longer.

(We are actually having these for dinner tonight!)

I've always thought that about Ragu.

And I pre-toast, too. :)

I thought it was just me, too! Growing up, Ragu was the sauce we always used, then added meat & other stuff in. Other sauces were always too sour & tangy. But, I haven't been able to get the old taste to the sauce anymore, once it was made. I thought maybe I was leaving out an ingredient. Glad to know it's the sauce, not me. :(

OP, do you put it directly on the toaster grill, or on a tray? It will get soggy if it is on a tray.

Try tomato paste. That's what my mom used when we were kids.

I never have a problem with them being soggy, but I usually cooke them on a cookie sheet at about 400 or 425. I don't toast them before.

I drizzle the english muffins with a little olive oil,add pizza toppings and pop in the oven. No pre-toasting.

When I do English Muffin Pizzas, I put the toaster oven on broil , I stick the plain english muffins in the broiler for a minute so they start to crisp up a little bit. Then I add the sauce, spices and cheese and put them back in the broiler for a couple of minutes until the cheese melts and starts to brown.

I always toast my muffins first, as done as I would if I were going to put butter on one and have it for breakfast. I also broil them too, just to get them hot and melt the cheese. They have never been soggy!

I agree with this! I now put my spaghetti sauce in a crockpot, fill it up with veggies and let it thicken up. Gets rid of all that excess water!
