engagement stories

I got engaged at Magic Kingdom this past May. It was our first full day there and we spent the morning and afternoon at Animal Kingdom (my favourite park) and then my fiance let me pick where I wanted to go to dinner. I was really craving a burger, so we went to Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney. We had decided to go to the fireworks at Magic Kingdom after dinner, so we had a few hours to kill before we took the bus over there. We were walking around DTD and he was taking pictures, but whenever I asked if I could take a picture of him, he was quick to say no, I thought that was weird, but didn't really care too much. Once at MK, he said that he needed to use the washroom, I just figured that something he ate wasn't agreeing with him. So we fought through the crowds and eventually found one, then headed to find the perfect spot. We settled on a spot to the right of the castle, between it and Tomorrowland. Everything was great until 20 minutes before the fireworks when a little girl came a threw up beside us! I was quick to move away and we ended up a little farther down on the bridge over the water near that little cafe (can't remember what it was called, something futuristic!) with no trees blocking our view. As the lights dimed down for the show, I noticed my fiance put down his camera case (which is weird since the camera cost him about $500 and he doesn't let it out of his site) and turn to me. He told me not to ask any questions and just to trust him. Of course I was dying to ask why! He asked me to give him his purse and turn around (so that I was facing away from the castle, towards the water). He then asked me to close my eyes, and put out my hand. By this time I was starting to shake! He placed a penny in my hand and asked me to wish for the one thing I really wanted him to do this week, but I never thought he would, throw the penny in the water and turn around. I wished that he would propose to me and when I turned around, the music was going, the first fireworks were going off and there he was on one knee! He asked me to marry him, and of course I said yes. And being the excited spaz that I was, I gave him the wrong hand! People around us clapped as we kissed and then we just held eachother while the fireworks continued and he was still shaking! After the fireworks, two girls beside us said congrats and that he did a perfect job and we started to leave. I was just so shocked, since I didn't think he would propose for a least another 6 months to a year and told him he had some explaining to do! It was then that he showed me that he had two spare pennies in his pocket because he didn't want anything to ruin his proposal. He also told me that he didn't let me near his camera case at DTD because that was where he was keeping the ring because I would have felt it, if he kept it in his pocket, when I hugged him (which also explained his desperate need to find a bathroom!) I couldn't have wished for it to be more perfect. We then had the rest of the week to enjoy our engagement before we headed hom!

AHHH!!! What a great story! Sooo romantic, lol I'm a hopeless romantic at heart. Congratulations!! I can't wait to hear all about your wedding!

 SOOOOOOOOO ROMANTIC!! Your FDH did a GREAT job at proposing! I was almost brought to tears while reading it!! A WDW engagement would be soooo great. ANYWAY! Great story and tell him for us that he did a GREAT job! :lovestruc :teeth:

Thanks! I love telling the story, I even made the two assistants at our vet cry when I told them! It is still a while before we get married, but I will let you guys know everything that happens afterwards. I am excited to hear more engagement stories!

My boyfriend of five years proposed to me in September.

I wanted to go to Cinderella's Royal Table for my birthday on Sept. 18th. He said he'd take, so I made the priority seating a while back. They only had a noon time slot, even though I wanted dinner, but that was fine, at least I got to go. When we went to lunch, they made a big deal out of my birthday. We got the best table in the house which was all decorated and they threw Mickey confetti. They also gave me a card and sang me Happy Birthday at dessert.
Afterwards we went to explore Magic Kingdom a little bit. We went down to Cinderella's Wishing Well and stopped to take a look. At that time a lady stopped us and asked if we would like to take part in a marketing study. We said ok. We had to test out a new tour program "princess for a day tour". It was like a scavenger hunt. We got to go on Snow White's Scary Adventure, see Belle's Storytime and go down the the Rose Garden. Then we went back to the Wishing Well so we could get our "prize" for taking part. I got to pick an envelope and when I opened it, it said "Danielle, Will you Marry Me? James" I turned and James was on one knee holding out the most beautiful ring I've ever seen and asking the same question. I was speechless and grinning ear to ear. I said yes and pulled him to his feet so I could hug him! People that saw were applauding and I thought it was fabulous.

I found out later that it was the Gifts of a Lifetime people that helped him put it together. They are really nice.

Ok, well that's my story!

princess: My then boyfriend had given me our trip to Disney as a Valentine's Day gift in Feb-03. I knew he really just wanted an excuse to go back, but hey, who was I to argue. So we had planned the trip for Sep-03, but then the Philadelphia Eagles were playing their first home game that weekend, so it got pushed back to December. Yes, I have realized that I will always be a football widow:hyper:

So, the trip was rescheduled for December 11-15, 2003. Well, everything was going as planned, until I found out I would be traveling for work to Minnesota from Dec 8-10, but I thought that would give me plenty of time to get home for the trip. Worst case, I would fly straight from Minnesota to Orlando and meet him there. I didn't understand then why he was making such a big deal about me getting home in time. It wasn't like I would miss the trip. I guess I would have been a little stressed too if I were him. So things actually go as planned, and I am home and ready to go bright and early the morning of the 11th.

I didn't even notice anything was up with him, and I always thought he would be a wreck. So we get to disney at around 11 that morning, and check into the AKL (by the way, I loved it there). So it was a normal day at MK, nothing out of the ordinary. We went back to the hotel around 4 to relax before heading back to MK for MVMCP. This was the first time I had been there for the holidays, so I was so amazed with everything. I kept saying how perfect the day was, and how perfect everything there was, the snow on main street, all the decorations, hot chocolate, cookies... He was convinced that I knew he was going to propose, but I honestly had no idea. So little did I know he had already scoped out the spot earlier that day, and it was going to be around the wishing well at the castle. Well, we go to walk that path, and since they were still getting ready to start the party that part of the park was still closed off. Luckily, my quick-thinking resourceful honey made a quick turn and said lets just take a walk around the castle to kill some time before the party started. Me not having a clue was begging to get something to eat (I don't think I did ever eat dinner that night) With a promise of a cheeseburger after the walk, we ended up right at the little pavilion in the rose garden next to the castle. He suggests that he take a picture of me in front of the castle. Ok, I love having my picture taken, so great. Well, I never thought he was that coordinated, but as soon as I saw the flash, he had in his hand the most beautiful ring I had ever seen, and was telling me how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Would I marry him. The story goes that he tried to get down on one knee, but when you show a girl a big sparkly ring, she is going to want to hug you immediately. I think I managed to say yes while I was crying and laughing. He always says thank goodness we were away from the crowds, or someone would have thought he was beating me I was crying so much. I think it took me about 10 minutes before I could actually see what the ring looked like. Needless to say, it was the most magical night of my life. I don't think I wiped that stupid grin off my face the entire trip. The only down side was, I had to wait 5 whole days to show anybody. Although, all the CMs that I subtly waved my hand in front of were more that excited for me.
So a long story short, if you are still reading, I am so lucky to have such a wonderful Fiance. He gave me a proposal that I will never forget. We will be married in Nov-05, and will be honeymooning in disney right after! Thanks for reading!;)

the friend of the son of someone i work with works at the MK (and now i consider him a buddy and he's invited to our WDW Wedding), and he helped me out. he got "the best" main street photog to meet us at the MK rose garden. i explained to the misses that we were just getting a regular photo taken, as i tend to make stupid faces during photos (not on purpose. i love taking photos, just not being in them). when my buddy told me to help him move to the gate in the rose garden, so we could go on the grass i almost needed to change my pants. i went to college that walking on the grass was the biggest no-no, and consider the same thing at WDW.
when the photographer counted to 3, i dropped to my knee, and as you can tell from the pic (which funny enough was taken by my buddy, and not by the photog) she was surprised. he presented us with a Cindy's Slipper, which he then took to get engraved with our names and the date.
during the whole proposal, i couldn't hear a think, but as i was standing back up i heard the 30 or so people that had stopped to watch all clapping and cheering. now we'll always need to get our pic taken at that spot during every trip.

So, we just got back from our trip to WDW and keep a look out on the trip reports board because I am working on a detailed report with photos coming up but during our trip out there we got engaged! Here is the story . . .

10/25/04
We spent the day at Epcot at the Food and Wine festival and then headed back to our resort to change for our dinner reservations off property and then head to the boardwalk for our illuminations cruise. After dinner we headed to boardwalk and waited for our cruise. The boat arrived promptly at 8pm and we got to board early and our captain was Dave.:boat: He gave us a tour of the water way that connected the MGM to the Epcot and the swan and dolphin. It was beautiful. Afterwards we headed towards epcot for Illuminations. We parked under the bridge and tied up with another Pontoon boat and the breathless. Then the show began. The view was perfect and we seemed SO close to the fireworks it was almost a little scary:scared: well I began taking pictures left and right and my now FFIL was video taping the show. After the world came out and the second set of fireworks began I got tapped on the shoulder and I turned around and my BF was on his knee holding a jewerly box. My eyes stared watering and he said the words I've been waiting to hear " Will you marry me?" I said yes::yes:: or something like that because I was so emotional I don't exactly remember BUT I do remember looking up from my now FDH and saw the people above us on the UK/Paris bridge staring, clapping and smiling. Then I looked toward my FFIL and he had been taping from the moment I got tapped on the shoulder. It was GREAT!! We then watched the rest of Illuminations as an engaged couple I was on Cloud Nine:cloud9:

Keep a look out on the trip report boards for a full and detailed trip report. :earsgirl:

In July of 2003, my then boyfriend and I went to WDW to celebrate our 40th bday. ( Yes we were born on the same day I am a few hours older). On the 4th day of our stay we had reservations at Chef Mickey's for breakfast and then were going to spend the day at MK. I should have known something was going on when he only went up to the buffet once!!! :earseek: We got onto the monorail to head to MK and he looked at me and said in a slight panic, "Isn't the train going in the wrong direction!!!" At first I thought he was joking but he wasn't! When we got to the MK, I had to use the bathroom and he knd of huffed at me, after being together for 4 years I thought he was used to me by now....so we began to walk down Main Street and a photographer approached us for a picture. I was going to say OK because it was our goal to get all of our park pictures but he said we were going to wait. :confused3 Iwas beginning to think something was wrong but he was not going to spoil my day and on we walked. The barbershop quartet was singing and noticed our Bday butoons and called us over for a song.. Bob said lets just wave but I walked over and they say Happy Birthday. By this time Bob Was sweating and it wasnt that warm yet. When we got to the end of Main Street, just across from the bakery another photographer approached us for a photo. This time he said OK, and they took the first shot. When she statred to take the second picture, Bob said wait and he dropped to his knee and puled out the ring. I was shocked!!!!! Said yes and strted to dry. I was so over whelmed that I sat down at the bakery and a park employee approached us to see if everything was ok. We told him we had gotten engaged and after getting me a kleenex he asked if we would like to be grand marshall of the snow globe parade. We got to ride in the blue electric car that Walt Disney used to ride around in. Everyone at Disney was wonderful!!!!We went back in July of 2004 for our honeymoon staying at the AKL and CR  Tuesday is our 6 month Anniversary. WDW is the most magical place on Earth!!

Congratulations and good luck to all!!!

Heidi and Bob

No. We got engaged by a mutual agreement that we should and started talking about wedding dates. There is no exact engagement date and neither of us asked the other.
