Engagement Rings

I would try and see if you could find a ring similar to that in a local jewelry store. Most people I know look online to get ideas and then bring the pictures to an actual store for comparison.
Good luck!

I would probably find a reputable jeweler (not a chain) locally and have them help you with gemology basics; color, clarity, cut, carat. This is a (hopefully) once in a lifetime purchase. Put some effort into educating yourself about what really constitutes a good deal in the industry rather than just focusing on convenience and price, which the online store gives you.

To put it in terms DISers can understand: Put as much time and effort into picking an engagement ring as you do planning your WDW vacations!

That a very pretty ring, but I think their "retail" price is vastly inflated to make their "discount" huge. My ring is set in platinum, three diamonds totalling 1 carat and it was about $2k less than the "retail" price they show.

I would hesitate to buy a ring I couldn't look at myself. What if there is a flaw in the diamond? Print out the page and take it to a jeweler, actually several jewelers and see what they will give you for price.

Good luck! :flower:

Red Sox Idiot,

I would print that out and go to local places and see if they have something similar like daughter_of_amid_chaos said.

I can't help with buying on-line, but it is a pretty ring. The only advice I will give though is to make sure it is the style your future fiance would like. Nothing worse than getting jewelry that's not your style. No I take that back, worse is having someone help you pick it out and it is their taste not who you're buying for ;) .

Thanks guys... Yes she knows what she wants exactly 3 stone Princess Cut White Gold Diamond Ring :D

There are good deals to be had online if you know where to look. My DH bought my wedding ring from The Facets Collection and I love it (www.thefacetscollection.com).

If you want some direction in purchasing a diamond ring check out www.pricescope.com. All of your diamond buying questions can be answered and then some.

Best of luck to you at this special time in your life!

Red Sox Idiot,

Good luck because I know how hard it is to pick the right one. Luckily my gf and I decided to walk into a jewerly store to look at a watch for me and she saw the engagement ring/band set I ended up getting and loved it. She has no idea that I went back while she was shopping elseware at the mall and got it.

If you do purchase the ring you posted make sure you are able to return it if you are not happy with the quality of the diamonds. The ring does look beautiful in the picture!

I-J color will show up as being 'off color' in a diamond. it may even appear yellow, especially in a white gold setting. the photos on various websites never show the actual ring you will purchase. Mall prices are going to be outrageous.
i used to be a jeweler and appraiser of diamonds and antiques. my advice is to look in your area for a jewelers exchange, or jewelry mall. they will have better quality and because of the direct competition will have lower prices. or, you may consider checking out the local pawn shops. because that style ring is very popular now, there is a good chance you'll find one like it at a very low price. if all that fails, try BJ's or Costco, they have nice quality at a slightly lower then retail prices.
good luck!

I would make sure that they include the paperwork saying exactly what the specs are. Once you receive the ring, take it to a local jeweler for an appraisal and see if they come up with the same thing.

Whatever you do, check out the online store's return policy just in case. I would hate for you to not get what you paid for and then be stuck with it.

Honestly, I think the pricing on that is a little off. The retail price seems a little high, and their sale price seems a little low if it is what they say it is.

My diamond is J color. It's slightly yellow, but I don't mind. I can only really tell in certain lighting. I had seen a J color diamond in the store and it looked fine to me. Of course that lighting was better. But I wouldn't get anything below a J.

I picked my ring out on bluenile.com and my DFi purchased it. He didn't know anything about diamonds and rings.

From the website you linked, that price seems a little low.

I was originally looking at that style but when I was trying it on at the jewelers I didn't like it as much. Plus, the jeweler was telling me the 3-stone rings are supposed to be anniversary rings because they represent past, present and future. So I would be sure that that is the ring she wants.

And if you get white gold, I would have them set the diamond in platinum.

Here is my ring. It's white gold with a platinum top:

But bluenile.com was great! They are very reputable and their rings usually appraise higher than what you pay for them. The site you link just seems odd to me that their loose diamonds are expensive, but the rings are so cheap.

Take a look here...

http://www.sunjewelry.com/

DH and I bought new wedding rings from here for our 10th anniversary and they turned out BEAUTIFUL!! We did alot of research online and we found Sun Jewelry. We were apprehensive about ordering sight unseen but we are both very happy with the rings we bought from this site. You can call and talk to someone there and they can help you with your decision about the type, size, color of diamond that you want. Our rings appraised for more then what we paid and we get tons of compliments on them.

This is a similar ring to DH http://sunjewelry.com/mr1259.html

and this is similar to mine http://sunjewelry.com/er2792.html

Bump! any more advice or sites? Thanks to all the posters who have posted in here :)

Check out the Facets Collection. Someone else suggested it on the last page. I've been to their showcase on Jeweler's Row in NYC, and it's all as gorgeous as it is on the site - great prices, too. www.thefacetscollection.com

Stay away from the mall, go for quality over size...ie VS or better and IMO G or better color and the appraisal replacement value should be 2-3 times the cost of the ring!
