This may sound silly but what is the purpose engagement pictures? I just got engaged July 8th, so I new to this whole world! :yay: My DF and I are not doing an announcement in the paper or an engagement party so we don't know what we would do with them. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to do them, but just wondered if there was a purpose to them. Also, we are from NY and I don't know if we should have the pics done here or in Orlando. I don't want them to be Disney related, just pretty outdoor, nature stuff.

Thanks in advance,
Vicky

Actually you got it, they are for putting in the paper and announcements....that’s about it....back in the day it would have been the first time the couple was photographer together..but now we take pics every five min so that’s out...still they are cute to just have...We did ours in the park one day with our matching incredible tee shirts (yes he wore it because i asked) came out cute..but then we live by mickey so it was easy to do

We did not do formal engagement pictures. We did an announcement in the paper but we used a picture that actually DH took a few minutes before he proposed - it's one of the best pictures of us ever taken and he did it himself! I had a friend snap a few pictures of us and of my ring but that's about it.

Some people send out formal engagement announcements to family and friends and some use the engagement photo as the picture at their reception where guests sign the photomat instead of a guestbook, so those would be good reasons to get the photos done. It is nice to have formal pictures with your DF/DH but it's not a "must do" if you're not interested.

Congratulations on your engagement :goodvibes

We took our pictures yesterday. I'm not using them for announcements or anything, I just rarely take photos and think this is my mom's way of getting a recent one out of me. You know...your brother did it, your sister did it - you do it. Anyway, we went to the portait studio in KMart in NYC and they were having a sale (9.95 for the package and no sitting fee) and the photographer did a really nice job. Both our mothers are going to be very pleased and, since it didn't cost us a fortune, so were we.

For the engagement announcement (and also announcing wedding in Disney) I made I used pics of us from our last trip there.

Besides announcements in the paper and such, the only other thing I have seen formal engagement portraits used for was the photoboard you have people sign at the reception, and if you wanted to you could use a different photo for that too.

our engagement session was included in the package we got with our photographers. We didn't do any announcements or anything, but we did use the pictures in our dvd and programs...

Ours is included as well and to remove it will cost a minimal amount. We are planning on waiting until Jan when we go for our planning session to do them. We have our own website so we will put them on there plus on a "through the years" board to be displayed at the reception and possibly in our dvd. They are totally not needed but we don't have too many really nice pics together (and the all of the ones we will get will be with our wedding attire).

Another MAJOR reason (probably #1) is for us to get comfortable with our photographer and learn how to pose together so on the day of the wedding it is not awkward and we are all comfortable.

We are doing ours as engagement announcements for family and friends...

I know people do them for save the date magnets too. also, I will do them just to have cute professional pics of us before the wedding/not in wedding dress. if you get a good photographer they can do really cute poses and fun things, just something cute to have and for mom's to frame :goodvibes

they're just for putting in the paper and announcing it. everyone has a "traditional" photo that they do of them together at a photo shoot, but my DF and i decided to put the picture of us in the paper of when we were at the Luau in Disney! it was just a few hours before he popped the question! we actually have a picture of him on his knee when he asked me(and my face is priceless! "omg!") infront of the Castle, but unfortunatly they wouldn't put that one in. but we were happy with the Luau picture!
