Enforcement of new "old" transfer rule

I am a relatively new DVC owner, but I thought I should share today's transfer /booking experience.

I purchased Feb. '07 use year points at OKW and they were transferred to my account this morning. My home resorts are BWV and SSR.

I called member services and said I wanted to book a studio in April. I explained that the points were transferred in this morning and that I wanted to book inside the 11 month window at OKW. She said, "sure, but that it needed to be done by a manager." I was told that it would be done the next day and I would get a phone call confirmation.

Several minutes later, the CM called me back and said that it would take 7 days for the reservation to be made. I was told this was part of new procedures. (It is important to note the the CM was extremely helpful, friendly and apologic for the delay.)

Any thoughts or comments? Has anyone else had this happen?

I hadn't heard that about the one week delay...but this far out, if you're going to use those points at OKW next June/July you shouldn't have problems. OKW is a large resort

I wonder if their computer glitch this week had anything to do with the delay?

I agree...the reservation should not be a problem. I thought this may be part of some new procedures to enforce the one transfer rule, etc...

No, transferred points must be tracked manually to keep the home resort priority intact. That is the reason for the delay.

Interesting....I transferred a few points into my reservation during the '06 use year and was able to use them immediately. Was this because the points transferred in were also my home resort?

Likely. In this case you're trying to use the home resort of the points that were transferred in if I understand correctly. That's something the system is not prepared to do in spite of what the rules say. You could likely have used them at the home resort they were transferred in to without this hassle.

It seems odd that it is a hassle to follow the intent of the rules and easy to do something different. What is to stop someone from purchasing points at VB or HH to say...BWV...in order to book at the 11 month window.

Right now, there is not much to stop that. A lot of people think that is the reason -- or at least one reason -- why DVC is cracking down on point transfers. I'm surprised, though, that Disney can't find a way to upgrade their computer system to track the home resort of transferred points.

It would be difficult to track them correctly. Given the way the home resorts and use years are set up, they'd essentially have to create every use year and every home resort for each and every member to track transfers correctly. Or to give the MS CM who answer the phone the ability to establish a new account on the fly.

Well...it did not take 7 days....I was contacted today and told my reservation was accepted. I think the delay was due to the fact that I was actually trying to use the points from their original home resort.

Another trip coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

Maybe they should contact the programmers for SWA - I have made and changed reservations for 9 people over the last 2 1/2 months and they are able to track exactly where the credits are from and when they expire and link them to a given reservation even though they started out someplace else. Bet they could set up something for Disney.

I did the same thing at the begining of July. I wasn't able to make a ressie for OKW on the same day the points were transfered. I was also told that a manager needed to make the manual transfer and it would take 24 hours.

Everything worked out. It really was no big deal!!!

Likely so but at a cost of programming, change over and additional hardware. Frankly, I'd love to see them track it correctly but I don't see it happening.
