End of the school year gripes...

Boys will be boys. This seems to be a blanket excuse for any and all stupid misbehavior among adolescent boys. Why do we never hear, girls will be girls?

If the bell rings, you are late. That you deny it doesn’t make it not so.

If you get away with stuff, you are still guilty.

I’m your teacher, not your friend. My goal is to educate you, not entertain you. I wish some administrators would understand this.

Since I’m supposed to “earn” students’ respect now (I love this one), when do you earn mine?

Sorry you don’t like the way I do things. Some day you might have a boss just like me. Hopefully you’ll listen to him or her better than you listen to me.

If something is due today, that means today.

If you have to ask if this is good enough, it probably isn’t.

Personality conflicts.

Hire a lawyer. Don’t just threaten to do it because your kid wants to wear a foul t-shirt. Go ahead. Hire a lawyer. Pay for the right to get the attention you want.

One meal a day won't solve your kids' bad eating habits. School lunches aren't what are making your kids obese.

When your kids end up in big trouble, it's probably not the school's fault.

You couldn't pay me enough to put up with all that crap.

I love when people post things that make sense! There have been so many teacher bashing threads lately!

"It's the most wonderful time of the year..."

The end of my semester couldn't come quickly enough this year either.

When I applied to college, I was a Secondary Ed/English major. Then, second semester of my senior year of high school, I did an internship with an 8th grade middle school English class. The end of my first day at the internship, I contacted my college and changed my major to just English. A career that just was NOT meant to be!
I respect what you do, OP-- I could never! Sorry the end of the year is so rough!

....yeah, but how many parents say that it's a 'cake' job, go in at 9, get out at 3, summer's off, you have 'Teachers' Edition' books, blah-blah-blah, yada, yada, yada.....if they only knew...

Feel better now? :)

Sounds like you are just as ready for summer vacation as the students are and I can't say I blame you.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote and as the parent of two adolescent boys let me just say that if or when one of them is "being a boy" in class, I expect them to come home with detention and preferably a phone call from the teacher so that they can be punished here as well.

I don't expect the teachers to "check out" for the year just yet and I don't expect or allow my kids to either.

Hope these last few weeks go quickly for you. :woohoo:

I accepted a long term sub assignment and the end of the year can not come soon enough for me. Twelve more days.

I'd like to add that just by having your child labeled as something does not free you from holding your child accountable. And gosh, teachers don't get paid enough. I know.

I am going back to school to be an elementary teacher. (I am 48, second time through college.) I have my eyes wide open, and I am hoping that will be enough to maintain my sanity! LOL!!!

I have already decided that when people tell me I have it easy I'm going to say, "I have a profession that I love. Do you enjoy what you are doing?"

Most likely the answer is no. People love to try and convince others that they work harder than you, are more exhausted than you, have more obligations than you, and still volunteer more than you, and their kids are in 18 different activities....

What I have found that really works is to smile and say, "Yes I am blessed. I have a GREAT LIFE!" It stops them in their tracks.

Then find a group that supports and understands the stresses of being a teacher, a place where you can be real, just like you were here, and laugh about the reality of being a teacher. Those kids are book material just waiting to happen!

Thank you for being a teacher!!!
