End of Disney Dollars

We went to Disneyland the first year they came out (1987), and every time we purchased something with cash, they would ask us if we wanted our change in Disney Dollars. We did get a few that we still have as souvenirs. I made a shadow box, with old admission tickets, park map, Disney Dollar, pictures etc. It even includes a receipt from our Blue Bayou meal- just over $32 DOLLARS!! Ah, those were the days. Anyway, they say the Disney Dollars will never expire, so if you have a stockpile, you can still use em if you want.

They are getting rid of them? We just used them within the past week.

It'll work like real currency. They quit printing them and destroy any uncirculated surplus. As people redeem Disney dollars, they'll take those bills out of circulation and shred them.

Like gift certificates and gift cards, Disney can't count the money spent on Disney Dollars as income until they are redeemed, they remain an open item on the ledger books.

Well, you can still get BB receipt for $32 if you eat alone and drink water.

Dang, if you aren't at the resort it is a $15 shipping fee!! I was hoping to just get one, but I'm not spending that crazy amount for shipping paper! :scared1:

Part of me wants to run over and get some of these, then another part of me says is $16 really worth it for what is about to be fake disney money..

Those people thinking of making a killing selling Disney Dollars on Ebay in the future: temper your enthusiasm.

Practically everybody who wants them already has them. There won't be a market for them.
I agree for the current ones. But on the flip side, those of you who have them from the 80's and 90's, check out ebay before you decide to spend them at a park. I found $100 worth of them in various denominations that we had from the mid 90's. I was excited to have $100 to spend at the park but when I checked ebay found that most of them were selling for around 10 times the face value there (for that specific series) so I would've lost a lot of money just using them at a park. No guarantee but worth looking if you have older ones.

Even some series from 10 to 15 years ago are selling for 5 to 8 times face value. I have a bunch from 2006 to 2009 that are in mint condition so I'll hold onto those rather than spend them.

I feel they never really advertised them. In all my trips I never really saw or heard of them. I would have never known they existed if it wasn't for these forums.

The nostalgia will be the same when they discontinue Magic Bands :)

Look into getting Dining gift cards. Thats what our group used. Its a much better deal than the meal vouchers since not every kid will want to get a full meal for lunch dinner and depending on the meal you may lose money on the transaction.
Well, I'm not in charge of the trip so I can't look into anything. The school was giving us a voucher in the morning when we got up. I have no clue how much a voucher is truly worth. But, knowing our school they'd only put $10-$15 on each card. Which for small kids like me, that'll be great since I can easily eat child-sized portions and be full (if not I had granola bars and skittles in my bag) But, the jocks could probably eat $25 worth of food. Especially, since Disney runs up the prices on food.

I remember getting Disney dollars when I went to DL back in 1991. When we bought our tickets with cash they gave us our change in Disney dollars. I remember I still had it when I got back to NYC but I have no idea where it went.

I'm so sad, I just want one! Does anyone have suggestions on where to get one besides ebay? I just can't get over the $15 shipping charge from Disney. I also collect the gift cards, I'm kind of a super nerd. :rotfl:

You convinced me to look them up again and actually lock them up in our locked box. :) Looks like the ones I have may be worth even more since they're not circulated and consecutively numbered. I did just order some of the envelopes for $1 each on ebay since I only have one envelope for all of mine. Just in case I eventually get motivated enough to list these there! :)

Some reports out today is that they are ALL GONE.
Parks and from Disney online/mail are sold out.
Our store hasn't had for about 1.5 years.
I know have these three and probably a few more.
I think the value just climbed on them.
Guess I need to frame them.

We did use them. Kids got for Christmas, Birthdays, Valentines from us and relatives. Each trip they took with for spending money. Once gone, they got no more money.

Currently on a 59 minute hold to buy some over the phone. Fingers crossed! I'll update here when done.

I'm here. DHS was sold out so went over to the epcot resorts.
Boardwalk had only singles from 2000, with spaceship earth and the wand dating 2000
Walked over to beach club they had only tens and fives
The 10 is from 2008 and the five is from 2009

I understand that from an accounting standpoint, the sale of Disney dollars doesn't count as revenue until redeemed but putting that aside, this about the huge influx of cash they just got as everyone ran out and spent between $1-10 on a pice of paper that they will frame and never redeem.

That's how my parents did it for us, too. Now I really do hope I still kept at least one of them. It would figure folks would rush out and buy them out. Oh well. I'll keep my hopes up for a little longer.
