Please let me know what to expect for the last week of August trip planned. I would like to hear your stories, experiences and regrets. (if any it is the happiest place on earth). thanks :moped: :wizard: :sunny:

Last week of August is great! Very low crowds. Yes, it's hot but drink lots of water and take lots of a/c breaks. We found it very manageable. We're planning to go again this year. Go for it!

We went the last week of August and as far as crowds go it was great, but be prepared for the heat. It was hot and humid!! We were okay for the first part of the week, but 3 or 4 days into the vacation we were getting pretty crabby!! Let's just say, don't wear cotton knit shorts, because AS SOON as you walk outside they will be sticking to you!! LOL!!

My son developed an itchy heat rash under his arms and by his socks, but we put him in sandals and t-shirts instead of tank tops and he was okay. All that being said, the lower crowds were worth it(and I didn't have to pull my kids out of school), but if I did it again (my DH says No Way!!), I would build more rest time into the schedule and maybe even stay at a monorail hotel where it would be quicker to get back to the hotel.

Have a great time. Everybody's tolerance to heat is different, this is just our experience with it. And no matter what my DH says, the heat won't keep me away!

We went the last week of August 2004 and even though the parks were closed for 2 days because of Hurricane Frances, we will be going at the same time (Aug 26 - Sep 3) this year.
Loved that time of year!
Low crowds! You can accomplish a lot more at a relaxed pace. A lot of the time Fast Pass was not even operating - not necessary. We sat on many rides for a 2nd and 3rd time around without getting off!
Kids loved swimming until midnight at resort pool!

We had mister fans (cheap $2 Walmart ones) that were great!
We drank lots of water.
Sat down and relaxed in the air conditioned areas when we were hot.

I Love late August. The crowds really thin out around the 3rd week, so touring is easy. Yes, it's hot, but just use common sense & you'll be fine. I love going in August so I can really enjoy the water parks. (I get cold very easily & love the heat)

Last August we went for the last week & there was only one day that we found unbearably hot, probably because we chose to do Lights Motors Action right around noontime - worst time of the day to be sitting in bleachers in a non-air-conditioned environment in Central FL! Once you get overheated, it's tough to comeback without a dip in the pool or a few hours in A/C.

I was going to say the same thing! We made the mistake of going to the 1:00 show too. That was the only time all week that I found the heat truly unbearable.

We went last summer during the last 10 days of Aug and it was HOT especially Animal Kingdom but I found I got used to it after a couple of days. Not to mention you are in and out of A/C at the parks constantly and it was nice not to have to pack any long sleeve shirts or long pants- made packing lighter. It did get busy over labour day weekend- Al Joyner family gathering(can't remember exact name sorry!) :sunny:

The Last week of August is PERFECT. While there isn't anything "Special" going on (ie MNSSHP, MVMCP, Flower garden, etc.) It is still a great time to go. Like others have said, There is absolutely NO wait time. The longest we waited was 30 mins for Soarin during the middle of the day. In the morning Frontierland & Liberty square where COMPLETELY empty. I have never seen anything like it. We planned our trip last august for the free dining. We plan on going again this august too (maybe there will be some huge accentive again)

We went the last week of August last year and it was great! We did have rain every afternoon, but it was just a quick downpour and then it was over. It wasn't terribly crowded or anything, we didn't have long waits for anything that I remember. I posted detailed trip reports on the trip report board if you'd like to search for them, I don't remember alot about it right now.

I'd gladly go the same week this year!

Have to agree with the above posts as well. We were there 2 years ago at end of August and it was on the slow side. However, when Labor Day weekend rolled in boy did it pick up.

We are going at the August this year and we are keeping in mind that Labor Day Weekend will be very busy. :)

Thanks for the your replys. They have eased my tension a bit, this is our first trip out to WDW. I have three kids, 3, 5, and 9. I feel confident it will be a great week. I will have to check out that posted road trip. Thanks again. I look forward to more stories. :hippie: :wave2: :yay:

If you can take the heat, you will love it then.

I'm glad to hear the positive responses to WDW in August. I'd like, more than anything, to be going this August so it's nice to hear the good reports.

And if not August, then November--hey, I can wait forever for such a trip.

As far as sunburns, take precautions - Sunscreen in liberal amounts & often. It does drop a couple degrees at night, but not tons. I can breathe fine, I don't mind the heat & humidity, but DH can't stand it.

One thing about August.... there's almost daily afternoon showers. I think they feel good & we keep touring despite them. But you'll want ponchos or something for those thunderbursts.

We like August. Crowds are low starting the second week of August because most schools are back in session. It's hot...but that is what pools are for.

What day of the week did you notice the increase due to Labor Day? Thursday, Friday or Saturday? We have booked until the Friday before Labor Day & was curious. Thanks!

We luv August as well, agree with the pacing yourself and taking breaks during hottest part of the day. Sunburn(we are prone) has never been a problem !

Only caution is for the fireworks watchers, these schedules sometimes become abbreviated in August so you may have to plan carefully.
