A month or two ago, a thread was started about us "fanners", those that sleep with the fans on because of the noise. We take a 20" fan with us everytime we go, and have the sucker on high. This is my son's that we take with us... we have a bigger one in our bedroom. One of the first few posts talked about how much they hated stuff like that because they make too much noise. Let me tell you, there is nothing louder than the piercing scream of silence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't sleep without the fan!!!!

LOL. :rotfl: :rotfl: this thread makes me laugh! :rotfl: :rotfl: DH and i sleep with a fan on 365 days a year! poor DH can't sleep without some kind of white noise. we've been married 12 years, and i think i'm finally used to it! but when he is out of town...ahhhhh, sweet silence!! :goodvibes
:rotfl2: This is us too! I have given up on arguing about it anymore!!!

Add us to the list of "fanners"

DH and I have 2 in our bedroom, and each of the kids have one in theirs. We cannot sleep without them.
When we vacation, we always make sure they get packed.
They are the smaller, turbo, ones from Walmart.....about $12 each.

and why preytell should we have to deal with unruly guests after 11:00 pm ior before 6:00 am ........

I contend this is a disney problem, not guest problem....

I find in so many instances, disney is so laxadasical...they choose not to offend anyone, which means they take no stand at all..
case in point: letting people cut the line and not asking them to leave

so I say....
Let DISNEY KNOW>>>>

it is okay to tell guests they are WRONG,UNRULY and YES have a quiet time afer 11:00 pm .....
we have all paid a lot of money for our vacations, more money for our rooms and we deserve peace and quiet......

Hmmmm..
let's start a petition

I had an old white noise machine from Sharper Image that worked pretty well for me but it broke and the new one I got from there has sounds that irritate me more than what I am trying to block out.

The best that I ever had was a window A/C right over my bed at a little cottage we rent for a couple of months in Florida. It completely drowned out my DH snoring. They updated this year and put in central air. I didn't get 1 decent nights sleep!!

Since we fly, packing a humidifier isn't really practical. But what I do helps keep out hallway noise-I take a large rolled up bath towel and put it on the floor at the base of the door.

This is me! I used to sleep like a rock until I had children. As a mom, you get trained to hear every little sound. But I first started using a fan because, one, I was constantly warm, and two, because I am the one that snores  and I thought this would help DH sleep.

Well, now, I can't sleep without the fan (and believe me, I wouldn't hear ANYONE at any hotel getting up at 6am. And I just have mine set at the middle setting). DH would love to sleep in silence but he makes the sacrifice for me. :lovestruc

Do they make sound machines that have the constant noise like a fan? I don't want to hear the ocean, that sound goes up and down. Nothing seems to work but that constant hummmm.

I have one of the old fans that really make noise, not like the new fans that hardly make a sound. Don't like those.

Totally agree about the silence................MUCH TOO LOUD! :teeth:

We also sleep with a fan - I worked nights for 12 years, and had to have it to sleep in the day time. My DH got hooked on it, and we have burned out many a fan. Several years ago, I tried to wean us off the fans, and got a white noise machine. We now have to sleep with a fan and a white noise machine. :rolleyes2

DisneyWisher - We got our white noise machine at Kohl's - not sure if you have those in FL, it's a discount department store. But I think they also have them at WalMart and Bed,Bath & Beyond.

Actually there will be a Kohl's opening soon just 10 min from WDW on Osceola Pkwy.

We also bring a small fan to block out some of the noise although we've always been pretty lucky with noise not being a problem when we get a room at the end of the hall (something to think about when requesting a room if possible).

Another thing I found to help with hallway noise a bit is placing a towel on the floor in front of the bottom of the door. We were near an elevator our last stay and heard people laughing and yapping until the wee hrs of the morning...but once I placed the towel by the bottom of the door it really helped.

Also those connecting doors, I just dispise those...that is my first request when requesting any room...please NO connecting door, you can hear EVERYTHING!!

this is hysterical. ive been sleeping with a fan since my noisey college dorm days _93-97) cant sleep without one now. my two boys need music or fans too. Im definatly going to look into this white noise machine. where can i get one and how much are they????? must be better on electricity AND I CAN TAKE IT WITH US.

My noise machine is made by Homedics, and we bought it at Kohl's for around $25. I'm not positive, but I think they have them at WalMart and other discount stores. As another poster mentioned, they also have them at Sharper Image from about $90-$200. HTH! :wave2:

I have a question about the white noise machines. Do they have a "high" hum or a "low" hum like a fan? Someone mentioned the radio static, but that's too high of a hum for me to sleep through -- I need something a lot lower.

I sleep with the fan on 365. I gotta have the air of the fan hitting my face it isn't the noise issue just the air issue so I hate when we go to resorts so I pack a fan and set it next to the bed.

this just keeps getting stranger and stranger. my friends husband actually has a hair dryer placed on the table next to his bed and has to used that facing him all night. i though that was strange but i guess other people are the same way. :rotfl2:
