Employers holiday party

Are you allowed to bring a date to yours if you have one?

Ours is next week, and with short notice I may wind up going stag

My husban's work has a holiday party and generally spouses and SO's don't attend.

DH employers usually have one and they can bring a guest. We've always attended.

Hubby's work is having it off site in the evening. He is entitled to a plus one, but not sure if that is because he is married or if he would have been allowed had he not.

I was going to go, but may not now due to a logistics issue.

my company is so cheap they combined the "holiday" party with the "employee appreciation" dinner at the end of Jan's then all of a sudden last year they bailed on the whole thing and we got a news letter and "props" at the monthly staff meeting.

dh on the other hand have a very nice dinner - they have over 500 people attend and he was able to bring anyone. we're even thinking of bring dd this year since we saw bunch of kids last year. we don't stay long into the dance so it might be fun for her.

Which one? My entire company has one huge event that is for two days. You pick which day you attend. You can bring one guest per employee, unless you have family and kids, then you get one ticket for each.

Then, our department has one little potluck that lasts from 11am-2pm on a Friday near Christmas. This is where we do a very strange gift exchange whereas some awful gifts from previous parties are re-hashed. If you get a bottle of wine, you pretty much want to keep it as that's the best it is going to get. We do the stealing and it is pretty much the highlight of the year. Does anyone have any creative wrapping ideas? I have one of the re-hashed gifts and need to find a way to wrap a copy of Captain Underpants concealed by a cigar box. The cigar box has been around longer than I've been in the department.

Yep! I am thankful that I work for a company that, although large, the CEO believes that he would not have a company without us.

He throws a huge gala style bash at a local hotel the first or second week of December. It is always themed...this year is winter wonderland...last year was Mardi Gras etc...Dinner, beer, wine and soda are on him. The harder stuff employees are on their own.

It is a blast, door prizes, DJ...good times!

How about the old trick of putting it in a larger box? or find an odd shaped box? but just wrapping it in dark paper or just a brown grocery bag(what I use to use waaay back when to cover school textbooks) would not let someone know what is in the package.

At our Christmas party its just employees....its held at a local bar and no spouses are invited.

My company's holiday parties are generally for the employee and spouse (or significant other). This year the parties have been cancelled due to the economy, which I honestly don't mind because it's a pain in the butt to be invited to adults-only parties. My sister is our only babysitter and she's 45 minutes away.

Hubby's party is held in January (after "returns" season), and it's plus one. And no kids. This year it's being held at Seattle's Experience Music Project, which I've never been to, so we'll try out the babysitter thing again so I can go.

My party invite says "employee and guest." Ours is off site. Didn't have one last year since we had just laid off 30% of our staff.

My wife's company did one for years off site, employee and guest. Now they do a Christmas lunch on site, with the managers as waiters, just the employees. They go to Costco and buy pans of Stouffers Lasagna and heat them up on site. Nothing says Christmas like Stouffers Lasagna.

Mine is held at a local hotel, it is for employees and one guest. They have dinner and 2 drink tickets for each guest. After that, it is a cash bar. Each employee also gets a ticket and they hold a raffle. Each employee ends up with a gift. The gifts are geared toward the men, we have 7 women out of 50 employees. We usually trade or I give it to DF.

DF's is at Dave and Busters this year..I'm kind of excited about it.

Yes, it is free for employees, and you have to pay a fee for guests. It is semi-formal with an open bar, and, of course, no children.

Idk. . .seriously, I would just ask. I have worked at places where it has been either situation. Some of them have been fancy catered events where end of the year awards were given and it was just employees only. And some of them were very informal. . .at the managers house and the owner showed up with a truckload of fresh cracked crab and a keg.

I work in a company of about 70 employees. We always have a black tie Christmas party, usually at a hotel outside of London in the country - so spouses and serious BF/GFs are invited, and they provide a full open bar and hotel rooms for all.

This year, they took us (plus dates) to Marrakech for 4 days in September as well, so it will be a black tie party in London (no overnight stay). Not complaining after Marrakech, they look after us!

My husband works for a large investment bank and hasn't had a large department Christmas party since 2007 - however, spouses were never invited even when they went on. This year is the same - a small party of his team, and they are paying for everything.

Wife's employer has a party at a venue; I'm invited. My employer has gone back and forth, and this year it's a pot-luck, in the office, no spouses. Phfft.
