Emmy Nominations

Well, the production value on some of these shows is incredibly high. They're like short movies in many cases and definitely the kind of TV we enjoy watching. I can see how it's an issue for writers with the number of episodes, but it also feels like there's so much to watch it's impossible to see it all.
And you have to go bankrupt to get all the streaming services some of them are on. Since retiring we have been binge watching a lot of old shows........Emergency, Adam 12, Barney Miller, Lone Ranger and most recently the ORIGINAL Dragnet from 1953. Such an interesting snapshot of America in those shows, much of it politically incorrect now.

Old school! What we tend to do wait for a couple of shows on the same streaming service to nearly finish their run, then turn on the app for that streamer and watch the shows over the course of a month, then turn it off again. So we don't pay for multiple streaming services at one time, possibly two at once but that's it.

We had YouTube TV and NetFlix and dropped them. We just got Disney+ and have the free version of Peacock. As I am retired I guess I could jump around services, but I just want to turn on my TV and watch my shoss.

The Last of Us (based highly on the third episode which was maybe the best hour of TV I've seen this year)
ITA. Each episode of the Last of Us was a psychological trip for me. Who knew a show based on a zombie-ish video game would explore humanity so deeply? I rewatched the third episode again recently and it was even better than I thought the first time. To see the writer, director, and both main actors of that episode nominated is awesome.

Have seen all of:
Andor-LOVE it
House of the Dragon
The Crown
The Last of Us
Abbott Elementary
Only Murders in the Building
Ted Lasso--hope it wins everything
Obi Wan
Dead to Me
The Old Man

Many but not all episodes of
Better Call Saul
Wednesday

1 or 2 episodes
Marvelous Ms Maisel, want to watch more
Succession
Diplomat

Agreed!! We watched it a few times. So happy for those nominated 👍🏻

I'm afraid to admit how many on that list we have watched

To be fair... we have a toddler with an early bedtime and watch a lot of TV. Several of our favorites are on the list!

Certain a changing world, and that has come up in the Screen Writers strike. Writers can't make a living because some of those shows only produce 6 episodes a season, compared to 26 for traditional TV shows. I would hope if you are only producing 6 episodes, that the quality would be better. But of the few on the list I have seen, I would say that isn't necessary the case. But after 47 years in local TV, that was always an issue with the local Emmys. You have a show that took a month (or more) to produce, competing for an Emmy against a show that was produced in 7 hours.
To be fair, most streaming shows are more like 10-12 episodes per season. And network shows are closer to 20-22 per season lately.

Just quoting the striking Screen Writers. A permanent writing job on a show that is streaming is for far fewer episodes so the writers have less work and less pay.

I've seen the series that were on Disney+ and Ted Lasso.

Some of nominations seem a bit odd. The limited series/anthology seems weird with Andor being in the drama series category, but Obi-Wan Kenobi is a limited series. And Diego Luna was great in Andor. He was really, really good.

No way would a person on strike possibly stretch the truth for their cause 😛

White Lotus season one was six episodes, season two was seven. Another shorter show that I enjoyed...mainly season one, was Big Little Lies....both seasons had seven episodes. Mare of Easttown was a limited series with seven as well. But, many of the shows are usually in the 10 episode range it seems. Still all were really solid shows, even if they're shorter.

The Crown, Dead to Me and Marvelous Mrs Maisel are the ones I watched.

I have to watch the final season of Dead to Me. We really enjoyed the first two, but then there was a long gap in between one and two....so almost feel like I need to rewatch them.
