Other than Disney Resorts, are than any hotels that we would be allowed to go to EMH at the parks if we were staying there?

The Swan and Dolphin guests also get access to the EMH even though technically it is not a Disney resort but it is on Disney property.

Are the Downtown Disney hotels about as close (geographically speaking) to WDW as you can get without actually staying "on-property"?

There are quite a few non-disney resorts that are just as close to the parks, if not closer. Bonnet Creek, the Swan and Dolphin jump to mind, but I know there are one or two others at least.

You can actually walk into EPCOT and DS from the Swan and Dolphin.

Just out of curiosity, why avoid Disney resorts if you want EMH? The values, and possibly moderates would give you EMH, plus a few other benefits like transportation, are themed awesome, and are just as cheap or cheaper than the DTD hotels.

I'm wondering the same. I don't think I'd ever stay offsite at an actual hotel. We DO stay offsite but it's b/c we rent a condo, etc. Actually this year, we're renting a villa.

We are staying on DVC this next trip and are short points. I thought since we're driving in 9 hours & probably won't go to the parks the 1st night we'd just stay off site to save$.

I'd stay at a value resort for that night. It's probably your cheapest option, plus you get the EMH. You could even have the bellhop at the value send the bags to your DVC if you want, and they'll be waiting for you there. If you were planning on doing DTD that first night instead of the parks, and had to have EMH the next morning, you could look at the Hilton, but it would cost you more coin. At least you'd be able to walk to DTD, though (although you'll have your car).

Hey I thought of that, but after our last trip - 8 nights @ Pop - it was a small room.

Did you notice my son's Mets shirt? His t-ball team last year was the Mets. Small World

I did notice the colors, but wasn't sure. Nice Stuff! You're bringing your kids up well! ;)
