Ok but they didn't pick up any of our ride photos, I can't charge to them, they don't have resort info/can't open my room door. They can access my FP+ and park entry, that's about it. They are not at all like a MB

I've always felt that it is probably too much of a bother (and just bad PR) to "kick" or deny guests out of the park for late night EMH. So they probably just don't enforce it.

It's not that great of a perk anyway, the parks would probably normally be low crowds if they simply kept the park open to 1:00 AM normally simply due to most people not wanting to be out until 1:00 AM!

I mean, why would they really care? There are probably thousands of resort guests that aren't utilizing the PM EMH at the parks, so who cares if a few hundred off-site guests are still at the park having a good time (and probably spending money on food, drinks and souvenirs).

I have to disagree We think its a big perk, because we usually always do evening EMH and the we notice a big difference on ride lines and crowd level, especially the last 2 hours. Sounds like you do not utilize night EMH so do not care, but we care! It gets old on how people do not think rules should not apply to them.

On our last visit during evening emh only one cm did not scan our magic bands.
The cm asked at mission space where we were staying & there were no further questions nor scanning.

One morning we were asked where we were staying and our magic bands scanned before being allowed nearer the entrance of ak.

I wonder if there would be a noticeable crowd difference between an evening EMH 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM or if simply the park stayed open an extra 2 hours for everyone.

My argument was, that because it is so late, the park would simply be less crowded in general without EMH, so the "perk" may not be much of an advantage. The advantage comes from simply staying at the park later than anyone else normally would, not because you are an on-site guest.

Obviously it is great those who take advantage of it now, but is it really a "perk" if they don't actively enforce that you ARE a resort guest?

I am just curious how much they do enforce it. Are they REALLY going to turn away a family from going on a not very busy ride at 11:05 PM because they aren't resort guests (potentially giving them a bad experience?) .. or will they just let it slide as long as the rides are moving pretty quickly?

I assume that it you aren't using a MB, you just flash your room key?

That's how it was for us earlier this month. We were staying at the Dolphin, so while we had MBs they weren't linked to our rooms. After one confusing encounter the first time we were asked about our resort, we just kept our room keys handy to flash on the way into the queues and it worked fine.

In a nutshell, Magic Bands have long-range and short-range RFID capability, so they detect more than your KTTW cards would. KTTW cards are only short-range. Because they are short range RFID, they won't communicate with the technology at your ride photos. They CAN"T be detected by ride photo technology, so the ride won't pick up the signal and therefore doesn't "know" you are there. The magic bands, with the long-range RFID, communicate with the ride photography technology, know where you are, and know to link your photo to your MDE account. (I think I have this right- it's how I understand they work.)

I don't know why you couldn't charge to your cards, and why they didn't open your door. With a short-range RFID, you should have been able to charge to the room (did you link a credit card to your room account?), and they definitely should have opened your door. How DID you get into your room?

I did. I'm as confused as you are! I think you're supposed to show your room key at EMH if you're in a non disney participating resort. I wonder if the CMs just can't be bothered to check.

Yes, they will turn them away. I pay little attention to what is happening with other guests as far as whose bands are being checked or not, but when the people in front of you are getting told they can't enter the ride, it's obvious and I've seen it happen many times.

I think the reports that they don't enforce are greatly exaggerated.

Disney evidently doesn't think it is a "problem" worth worrying about-they only check at TTC.

yes, we had the little piece of paper but no one ever asked for it after I told them I was at SoG, they just waved me through

Hmmm, interesting question. Do the CM scanners work with the KTTWs? I would think at the very least you could use your MDE phone app to prove your resort reservation if all else failed.
