I don't understand it.

If a park has an EMH morning, why do people flock to the park in droves after the extra magic hour is over? :confused3 It just makes no sense to me.

We chose not to do any EMH mornings this year, but every day that we went to the bus stop, without fail, the bus stop for the park that was having the EMH morning would be completely packed with people, yet they'd be arriving too late to enjoy the EMH!

Have any of you noticed this?

The first couple of years we went to Disney we weren't even aware of EMH. We just went to whatever park we had previously decided upon. We now know better! We actually avoid the parks with EMH.

Also, we come from the West Coast, so getting up at 6am Florida time is like getting up 3am Washington State time!

We always try to get at the park around opening time, but you can imagine how thrilled my children are to get drug out of bed each morning of vacation at 7am (4am our time)!

I can't imagine what a lot of the people from Europe must experience, they are probably totally off on their hours!

I generally follow the theory that people had planned to be up and ready for EMH, didn't manage it, but since they already had that park planned for the day they stick with it.

I hadn't thought of that.

I felt bad for these ladies at AK on our last day there. Their paperwork from the resort said that AK was having its EMH morning, so they arrived at 8, thinking they'd get in and start having fun, but they came to find out that the resort was wrong. That had to be disappointing!

I heard something interesting on my last trip . . . we went to the MK during an EMH morning, actually getting there 45 minutes before the park opened, lol, and stayed until it got busy. As we were leaving around lunchtime we heard a woman yelling at a CM that there HAD to be some mistake, there couldn't be that many people staying in the hotels as were in the MK and that the MK was supposed to be reserved for RESORT GUESTS ONLY that day because that's what EMH was! :lmao:

Though I HIGHLY doubt there's a large number of people who think that, it does make me wonder how many first-timers at least get the impression that resort guests are "encouraged" to visit that park on that day, and they think the crowds will be less.

I think EMH used to just be for Disney Resort guests only. When we went 4 years ago, we stayed late at MK (because that's all that was offered), and I'm almost positive it was just for resort guests.... *shrug*

my guess would also be that maybe people don't know about the EMH....Better that way hahaha....shorter lines for us! ;)

EMH IS for Disney Resort guests only. The poster above you was saying that the woman thought the park would only be open to resort guests the ENTIRE day, not just during EMH. ;)

I love getting to the parks early! If only my family could get up to enjoy it--now that would be a miracle!

If I'm not going to a parks EMH, then I head to the park that had EMH the evening before. But, I find that there is a ton of misinformation out there regarding EMHs. My ex-dh paid for his dd and two friends (actually all three families paid) to go to WDW in July. STaying at POP. When I was talking to my dd, not the one going, she told me that her 1/2 sister was going to get passes that enabled her to go to the parks before other people could. I explained and she said..."No, it's something about special passes that come from staying at POP..that's what the TA told my dad." Okaaaay then. I gave her my UO guide to give to her 1/2 sis, and hopefully, she'll read it before she goes. Also told her about this site.
No way would I go to the EMH morning park after it 'officially' opens!!!

We had 4 annual December visits to WDW, starting in 1993. I remember seeing a card on the resort room table announcing some extra magic hour.
At that time, I didn't even know about extra magic hours before getting there. However, even before my very first trip, I still planned out *Which park-Which Day*. This was all then without planning for extra hours -
or AVOIDING THEM !!!! We still went to whatever park that I planned for the day.

HOWEVER, since I got internet in the house with my WebTV, I now know better. I discovered The DIS only about a week after getting the internet.

I usually avoid the EMH's by going to a different park, now.
You know - I go in early December - I don't have children - and I really need my sleep, even on vacation.
