Too confusing. DW is way easier. All you have to know is which park has EMH's. Can someone tell me where to find which days are EE, AP, MM. The days I'm mostly looking for is Aug 19-21. Also can you recommend which park is best on those days. I was just going off EMH.

It's actually not as confusing as it seems.

There's no such thing, really as "EE". There's APEE, which is only for APs. If you don't have an AP then don't worry about it. As far as MM, that is S/S/T/Th, and if you have a 3 day or more hopper ticket, then you get to go early to DISNEYLAND ONLY, ONCE with your hopper ticket on the Sat/Sun/Tues/Thurs. This is tied to your 3-Day + park HOPPER ticket, regardless of where you are staying.

If you are STAYING ONSITE- then you can use your Extra Magic Hour, which currently, through Sept 29th, you can do EITHER PARK EVERY DAY of your stay.

In general, since everyone is heading to Carsland- DCA will be more crowded regardless of the day you are going than Disneyland has been during it's early hour. I'd suggest Aug 19th to head to DCA, and anticipate heavy crowds at both parks, but esp DCA on the 20th and 21st (the socal passes get unblocked on the 20th).

I think you should add that having Hopper tickets DOES NOT MATTER WHEN YOU ARE STAYING ON PROPERTY! You CAN go everyday its offered & choose which park until Sept 29th.
IF YOU ARE STAYING OFF PROPERTY THEN IT'S ONLY ONCE INTO DISNEYLAND ON 1 of the 4 days mentioned.

Read the poster's next line......

Never had to deal with staying OFF PROPERTY when using hopper tickets (hardly ever purchased without considering a stay) so whats written on the ticket becomes null/void to us because we have always used magic morning hours while ON PROPERTY. So this sentence - "This is tied to your 3-Day + park HOPPER ticket, regardless of where you are staying." was to my response.
Now have had PAP for the last 2 years.

So would you let annual pass holder days effect when to go? The Sunday says Deluxe-valid, SoCal-blocked and SoCal Select-blocked. Mon and Tues are all valid. Would you hit a particular park on Sun? We can get in either park early.

What do you have? EMH for hotel guests or one MM?

I would avoid APEE days on Monday and Tuesday when the SoCal APS become unblocked. They have been blocked since June and when they were unblocked the APEE days were busy.

We are staying on property. So would you try to hit DCA 1st thing Sunday, the day they are blocked?

If you want to do DL, do it on Sunday, then DCA on Monday and Tuesday. Or do DCA on Sunday and on Monday and DL on Tuesday.

The main things to do is Carsland which is why you may want to go to DCA the most. It's your advantage to attend EMH to do rides that later in the day have long waits. In DL you may want to do Fantasyland if you have kids, and the Matterhorn in particular.

It would be good to know if the APEEs for that week are reaching capactiy like they did before the SoCAl AP blockouts. If not it may be better to avoid the Sunday and Tuesday MM in DL. Since I haven't heard any SoCal APHs mention full APEE days it may not be a problem like it was before thier Blockout.

I think I need Skiingfast to plan my trip. I'm a DW vet and know the 4 parks better than my own house plan but am out of my comfort zone never been to DL before. I think it sounds like doing DCA Aug 19th and 20th and DL on the 21st with some hopping during the day. Like you said, Carsland is very important since it's not at DW.

A few thoughts for you:

- Disneyland is not complicated, it's just not WDW. Don't try to match what you know about EMH from WDW to DLR. Just learn DLR. :goodvibes

- I DON'T think that CarsLand is important just because it's not at WDW. New Orleans Square is not at WDW. Neither is the Blue Bayou. Nor are lots of other things. There are similarities, there are differences. You need to decide what is most important to YOU and your group. No one else can tell you that.

- Remember that it is about a two minute walk from the gate of one Park to the gate of the other Park. No bus needed. While I disagree with the advice that some people here will give that you should hop back and forth throughout the entire day (because let's face it, you are not at the gate, you are deep into the Park at most times), you can park hop each day much easier than doing so at WDW.

- Unlike WDW, do not base which Park you go to based on where there are EMH. Since you are staying on property, during your dates, you will have access to your choice of DL or DCA every day of your visit one hour prior to park opening. This would be a great time to take time to explore Cars Land, in particular get a FP to Radiator Springs Races (which is wildly popular at the moment).

- Don't stress about it. It's a vacation. :goodvibes

It sounds like you got your question answered but I would point out your comparison to WDW is not entirely fair. Until June 15 the early entry at DLR was much simpler. With all the new offerings this summer DLR changed things up, experimented, and tried to address some of it distinct demographics which are not really issues at WDW. To come in right when DLR is dealing with some special summer issues and trying new things and then comparing it to what WDW has had in place for many years is not a fair comparison.

After the summer ends DLR will transition into a longer term early entry program. After that settles down then a comparison with WDW may be more fair.
