Hi everyone!

So we are going to be getting to Disney World around noonish on June 6th and my DH and I are duking it out ;) as to how to spend our time once we get there.

I had it all planned out until he went to the library and checked out a bunch of Disney books. I thought I was doing all the planning?! :rolleyes1

I would like to spend our time at MK because of the extra magic hours until 2am. (I don't know if the kids will make it that long or not but we'd give it the ol' college try.)

DH wants to go to DHS because it's the last day for the Star Wars event they have going on. (Let me just say, he still has his childhood Darth Vader travel head with all the little plastic characters in it and my children have all played with them. But, I don't really think the kids--DS12, DD9,DS6-- would care either way... :)) I don't think there is that much to do at DHS anyway...

We have 5 days to spend (6-10) and are just doing MYW tix. What do you think we should do?

Thanks!
Ang

I'd go to DHS. I'd love to go during the Star Wars weekends but that won't happen until DS graduates!

DHS, I can't believe you even have to ask that question. MK is there EVERYDAY, SW is only there that 1 day....

This is however, the opinion of a 37 year old male, that may or may not have had the same SW case your husband still has!!

I would do the Star Wars event at DHS. Especially since he is a big fan! I also think yiour kids would enjoy it. It's something special going on and you happen to be lucky enough that it coincides with your trip.

You still have plenty of other days to go to MK. I also think staying up until 2am would really wear your family out and wouldn't be a good plan (getting a good nights sleep is so important on a trip like this)- but that's just my opinion too.

Enjoy your trip!

Another vote for Star Wars. It's your only chance to go, and it sounds like your DH is a tremendous fan. My DH is also a Star Wars nut (still watches the movies at least once a month) and I don't think he'd forgive me if I made him miss Star Wars for another day in MK. Honestly, in my family, it wouldn't even be up for debate, and I wouldn't ask him to miss it.

Ok, let me start of by saying I AM NOT A FAN OF STAR WARS, but my DH is a HUGE fan. We went 3 years ago and it was honestly AWESOME, probably the BEST time I have had at DHS, we have been talking about going back in May/June just to hit that again. So if your DH or kids are fans you most definitely need to do it!

If you aren't getting there until noon, it may not be worth it to go to Star Wars Weekend, and this is from someone who thinks Star Wars Weekends is awesome. You definitely won't get to meet the stars that are there that weekend because the tickets to meet them are all given out before the park even opens.

You'll probably want to check the event schedule for the day once it is released. The parade will probably be over by noon and your kiddos won't be able to sign up for the Jedi Mind Challenge.

You would still get to meet the characters (they are available until about 6) and you could do the Hyperspace Hoopla (which is at the end of the day).

Star Wars weekend is awesome, but I'm not sure it will be worth going, since you won't be getting there first thing in the morning.

Obviously the decision is up to you guys, but I'm kind of leaning towards Star Wars as well, given that it is a big thing for your husband and it's his last opportunity to go.

Additionally, I'm not sure if you're flying in or driving, but either way you'll probably have to be getting up fairly early to make it to Disney by noon. Traveling takes a lot out of you, and then to try to stay up late on your first day is probably pushing it a bit... you might wind up with tired and cranky kids (and adults) for the rest of the trip... or you'll wind up sleeping through most of the next day and missing time in the parks then. I'd suggest just doing DHS on that first day and going to bed early and getting a nice fresh start the next day.

Alternately, if you still really really want to do a late night at the MK, consider adding the hopper option to your tickets (It's $52 plus tax per ticket, so it's not a cheap option), but it would give you the opportunity to go to DHS for the afternoon and evening for your husband and then spend the night at the Magic Kingdom.

You don't need to purchase the hopper option now.. you can add it to your tickets at any time while you're at the parks. So maybe the best thing would be to go to DHS for the afternoon when you arrive and see how you feel when you're done there. If you guys still have a lot of energy and want to keep going, then go to a ticket window and add the hopper option to your tickets and head over the the Magic Kingdom for a while. If you're tired already and wanting to go to bed, then head back to your resort and save the money on the hoppers.

The only other suggestion I have if you guys would be willing to split up is for you to take the kids to the Magic Kingdom while your husband goes to DHS. He could get his starwars fill and then add the hopper option to his ticket and join you guys at the MK later that evening. That way he would still get his starwars weekend and you wouldn't have to add the hopper option to everyone's ticket.

Just fair warning...SW weekends events usually start wrapping up around 5-6 and if your not getting there until noon, more than likely all of the fast passes to meet/get autographs from the actors in the film will be gone so if that's what he's wanting to do you may want to let him know that. There will still be time to see the characters, but expect long lines. You'll be there in time to see the Hyper Space Hoopla which closes out that day's activites which is great to watch. That section of the park will be PACKED but the rest of the park will be just about normal for that time of year.

Looks like we were having the same thoughts at the same time...you just typed faster...:)

If you can make the parade alone I say DHS! My kids LOVED that parade. We were able to see a few "celebrities" from afar. And my kids have pictures with the storm troppers that hang in their rooms.
Seeing them standing on top of the entrance to get in(we got there at rope drop) was cool to everyone even me!!

This is good information. I needed to know what it is he'd want to do. This might give him incentive to get tehre earlier though. Hmmmm.

Good point.

split up...while your husband goes to DHS.
No ways!:sad1: "We're all in this together, forever..." Ha!

You probably can't do that. Why not add the hopper option and then everyone is happy :confused3

We go for the parade and merchandise and seeing the characters dressed for SW, so we are in and out of DHS by 1pm at the latest. We make sure to arrive at opening though, because the "show" starts at the turnstiles.

We are doing this over Memorial Day Weekend and then hitting MK til 2 am

Let the force be with DH..............:darth::yoda::darth::yoda::darth:

Cracking me up over here!!:lmao:

Well, I think some of you may be right in that staying up too late might do us in for the next morning. We are driving. TWO days to get there. Since there is not much to do at DHS maybe the SW thing is the better option. Now I am wondering if we could schedule it so that we get in a few hours earlier just to see the parade. I am SO not a Star Wars fan, but he gets a kick out of it. The kids will probably be tired from the drive and we could just take it easy and maybe go for a swim and ready ourselves for the next morning.

It's obvious there are alot of SW fans on this board. Why did I know when I posted y'all were gonna be on DH side?

I guess I should be a loving wife and give him what he wants. I just realized the that is his actually birthday! You are right, he wins.

Thanks for you're help! :disrocks:

Bummer...

Why not add the hopper option and then everyone is happy :confused3
Because I'm cheap. :) It's not that big of a deal for me, really. We are taking a short cruise (RCCL) after World so I don't want to spend more on hoppers.

We are doing this over Memorial Day Weekend and then hitting MK til 2 am Suzanne

How old are you kids? Curious if mine youngest could handle it...

Thanks,
Ang
