We don't spend xtra for hoppers anymore. So, generally we Avoid parks with Early EMH, but do take Advantage of Late EMH.
imho the early hours do jam up the park. It seems that many families.. especially with young ones leave earlier rather than later so with that And the late EMH... seems to work for us.
Early EMH can be a good perk even without a park hopper. Arrive early for EMH and hit the main attractions. Head towards the back of the park. You have probably another hour in the back of the park before the general public will reach you and enjoy the rides there. Then, go to shows where a bigger crowd will be allowed and you are bound to get in easily. Then, use your fastpass plus for late morning and onward.
We usually take advantage of morning EMH. Two of our kids are young and up early, so morning EMH makes more sense for our family. We get so much done! We rarely do the late EMH, again, because two of our kids are younger.
We haven't hopped in years. Not worth the hassle or money to us. We also don't pay attention to the crowd calendars, so I know we are in the minority.
We definitely made use of our morning EMH! We did not have park hoppers so we stayed at the same park all day.
Personally, we didn't find the EMH parks any busier than the non EMH parks. We went to Epcot on a day that there weren't EMHs, and the next day did MK that had EMHs, and found both to have similar crowd levels in the afternoon/evening. But I'm sure hoppers are awesome to have too!
