Emergency vet or not?

My shih tzu's tummy is making all kinds of crazy noises for the past three hours. They are a high pitched squeek mainly. Have you ever had your dog do this? I don't think he got into anything, but he was home alone for a few hours earlier. I am worried, but don't want to spend a crazy amount to find out it is nothing. WWYD?

Is it just his tummy? or does it sound like hes having trouble breathing? How is his behavior? if hes acting fine I would wait it out, could possibly be digesting food or something.

Does it bother her/him if you touch his tummy? Any other signs? She she or him acting normally? When was the last time him/her was checked for parasites?

He is acting normal. He is breathing just fine. He takes heartworm meds every month. I have just heard about dogs eating something and then almost dying or dying from it blocking them up :scared1:

If it was my dog, I wouldnt worry about it unless she(my dog is female) started showing any kinds of signs such as changes in appetite or behavior, or if she vomited.

Probably gas. If you have some baby gas drops (Mylicon) you can give that to her to see if it helps.

If there are no other symptoms dont worry. If the stomach becomes too distended and when you tap on it, it sound like a hollow drum...that is a sign of bloat but not common in that breed as far as I know.

You can have him looked at, but I wanted to say that my female papillon (1 1/2 yr) does this sometimes too! The first time I heard it I called the vet, but they just said to watch her and make sure she was still eating and drinking.

Such a weird noise :cutie:, and it lasts for quite a while, but she's always fine and it doesn't seem to bother her in the least - no diarrhea, fever, soreness, still full of energy etc.

It's hard to ignore- kinda sounds like a sink draining, glug, squeak, glug

I don't want to tell you not to go if something ended up being wrong but I can tell you I have an 8 pound maltese and once in a blue moon his stomach makes CRAZY noises like someone is in there squeezing a balloon at the end making the noise come out (sorry, that is how it sounds, crazy I know :confused3 ).

The first time I heard it, I was a little worried but I've heard it quite a few times over the years and figure he must have eaten something that he shouldn't have. He usually doesn't eat things off the floor but you never know. One time I think he ate the firewood by the fireplace and his stomach was making those noises. I would hear it at night since he sleeps with my dh and me but by the morning, it would go away.

Let us know what happens.

I am going to wait until tomorrow to see how it sounds. It does sound like a balloon is in there with the air being squeezed out! My daughter laughed when she first noticed it. He is a year and a half old. He has never had this before. Hopefully it will be gone in the morning.

That is exactly what I said in my post. My maltese just sleeps through all the sounds, while they annoy the heck out of me.
I am sure he will be fine. He probably ate something and his little tummy is having a hard time digesting it. Please post back tomorrow and let us know. I'll log on at work and see that all is fine! :grouphug:

Our toy poodle gets like that every once in a while. Last week his stomach noises were extremely loud. I find he doesn't like to eat while this is going on. Then after a few hours or sometimes a whole day, he's back to normal :confused3.

One of my rat terriers does this on a regular basis. She has the most quirky tummy! It will actually wake us up at night it's so loud. Generally she won't eat for a few hours, then once she finally eats it stops, and she is totally fine.

I am happy to report that Cowboy is doing fine and tummy squeeks are gone! Thanks for all of your input :o)

I give my dog pepto when she has that problem. Usually takes care of it

One of my weiner dogs tummy makes noises in the morning before we get up. But I think its because he is hungry. It is so loud sometimes it wakes me up haha

Tell Cowboy we are happy that his tummy is back to normal
Glad everything worked out. I was looking for this thread on Community Board and looked and looked and thought I was going crazy.
So happy to read all is well!

Glad he's doing ok, love his name! Our lab has days like that too but the noises don't seem to affect him at all.
