Hi all,

Got off the plane, took DME to the Poly, dropped out carry-ons in the room and headed over to Epcot in search of character spots & dinner at the Akershus. Well, turns out our Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens decided to stop focusing inside of 10 feet. Not good. Even manual focus won't bring it in any closer. It would be one thing if we were trying to photodocument the parks, but this is the first time for our 4 and 2 year olds so it's all about them.

Our other lens is a Canon 85mm f/1.8, clearly the wrong one for close up shots (especially on the XTi with its 1.6x zoom over FF sensors).

We're pretty desperate. We called the Poly's front desk and they said that the Kodak store @ Magic Kingdom sold lenses (?!?!). So, 2 questions: Does the Kodak Store @ MK actually sell Canon lenses? If not, where's the closest place?

Not sure about in the park but how about a Best Buy or Circuit city in the area. There also some shops down there that are not tourist traps I will try to find that thread with them in it.

Rentglass.com is right down the road in Celebration, FL. Here is the phone number; (321)284-4697. You may even be able to drive over and pick a lens up if they have what you need.

Another option may be to buy a 50mm 1.8 for $100 or so, and have it overnighted to your hotel.

Sorry to hear about your lens.

Good Luck!

I would pick up a kit lens at a BB, CC, or possibly even Walmart. I would not do WDW with the widest being 50mm anyway. There are just too many things that will not fit in the frame.

All,

Thanks for the helpful responses. I'll begin making some calls when shops open this morning.

ukcatfan: We actually left the kit lens at home; we were trying to save some room in the camera bag and we've never liked the IQ from it. :/

HTH! wish you the best of luck and a safe and magical trip!

I hope you have already found a lens but if you haven't: there are a few Ritz Camera shops in the area. I don't know which one is the closest. I was there a week ago and used the one in a strip mall near the Florida Mall.

Last time I was there, I'm pretty sure the camera store at the front entrace of Epcot has lots of equipment. I didn't look too closely at stills, but they had a lot of DV camcorders (I had a DV emergency....), so I assume they would have DSLRs (and possibly lenses).
