Emerald Island - what's nearby and prices?

Hi - we're staying at Emerald Island for 2 weeks next summer. Just wondering what's nearby there as far as restaurants, groceries, and souvenirs. How are the prices?

We're flying in - is there a better place on the way from the airport to stop for groceries or are the prices about the same all over Orlando? (Except for the convenience stores at Disney resorts of course! I remember a 6 pack of soda costing $9 several years back!)

Are there places for takeout pizza/chinese/Subway, etc? Any don't miss restaurants or just good chains nearby like Olive Garden level? What would some of the streets in the resort be if I wanted to look on Yahoo or Mapquest and see what food was nearby?

Thanks for any help and any words of advice about the resort!

Good Morning...WOW, this my 1000th post...maybe I need to get a life!!!

Emerald Island is a beautiful housing developement that is almost all rental housing for Disney area. I think you will love it. We owned a home there that was sold last spring.
You will be about 1 1/2 miles off highway 192, the main drag past Disney. On this highway you will find many stores, restaurants, groceries, pharmacy, liquor store, and plenty of souvineer shops.

For groceries there are two options...one is very close and a little expensive vs. about a 2 mile drive and a little cheaper...When you turn left off 192 onto Formosa Gardens Blvd you will be headed one mile to Funie Steed Rd. There you will turn right about 3/4 mile to Emerald Island Entrance.

As soon as you turn off 192 onto FG Blvd a big shopping center will be on your right. All you need will be here...there is a big MarketPlace Grocery, Pharmacy, Subway, Liquor, Giordonno's Pizza (Resaurant.com has coupon right now for $5.00 for $25.00 off a bill of 50.00 or more).
This grocery is a little more expensive than Pulix that is about 2 miles west on 192 past Formosa Garden's Blvd. If you are buying lots of groceries, it might be worth the trip to Publix. FYI soda will not be that expensive at either place.

As for restaurants, they are all over the place...One of our Favorites is a little British Pub called Beef O'Brady's Family Sports Bar. It is about 3 miles West (past the Publix) on 192. It is out the way a little but right next to the entrance to Vista Del Lago Mobile Home Park...Fun little place, good prices...great beers, and we are not British.

FYI the 192 map from the previous poster is excellent for knowing where you are on 192...

Thanks everyone for the help! Thanks for the 192 Map - I did have it (and a lot of other information) at one time. We booked all this about a year and a half ago for this summer, then ended up rescheduling the dates for next summer when we moved out of state this July. So a lot of my information was from quite awhile ago on a different email. When we moved, we didn't think we'd be able to reschedule, and between new internet providers, etc. and (in a general fit of depression ) deleting a lot of stuff, I don't have all the cool info I did at one time!

Thanks for the info, links, and information! Can't wait - we're under 300 days now! (Yes, I know - that's still depressing!)

I find that the WD Marketplace in the shopping center right at the intersection of 192 and Formosa Gardens is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. Even thought we've stayed at Emerald Island many times-it's great, you'll love it!- the Marketplace got my money only once, never again. We generally food shop at one of the WalMart Supercenters, either the Poinciana one or the one further out on US 27.

You are so welcome Deb! I have met a lot of great home owners and been fortunate to have rented our home to some really great guests as well! This is one job that is more fun than work!

Just got back on tue. We had a ball but we did nothing but use the pool. We did go to Red Lobster for my sons bday not my first choice but it was all about him. Was ok. We also did N Y China buffet in Beauno Vista plaza. My kids are dye hard Chinese food fans.

I was talking to some on and they mentioned abaout a chinese rest. on 27 in Champions Gate and also one on I drive? I am thinking of Bill Wongs on I drive do you know any first hand info on either? I think I will ask on a new thread. Any info on chinese food is good for my guys. It is a sure way to get them out of the pool. LOL

We did make the mistake of going to a Chinese Buffet on the opposite side of 192 and if you make a left out of Formossa Garden its right there on your right side. I don't know the name of it but it had to be the WORST Chinese I have had. I also ordered delivery from the Chinese place in the strip mall at the top of 192 and Formossa, it was expensive and I was not impressed..
I would love to get some good reviews for some very good Chinese places!!

I agree completely with the assessment of the buffet on 192 and the take out...we are there 3 months a year and have yet to find a really good Chinese or Mexican restaurant...The best were always down around Lakeland area, kind of out of the way if you are there for a week...
The one place with an OK reputation is Bill Wongs...take I-4 to the last International Drive Exit going east. Here is Yahoo reviews and directions...they used to have great crab legs but took them off he menu...

We own a home in Emerald Island and I find the cheapest place for food is Walmart. If you take route 192 west to route 27 north there is a huge Walmart there and its open 24 hours. No matter what hours you check into your home in Emerald Island, you can go food shopping and save alot of money.

Hi, The Walmart is very nice but a long drive from EI compared to Publix...If you go all the way to Walmart, have some fun and go another mile or so north on Hwy 27 to the "Upick" fruit stand...Oranges and other fruit are right out the the orchard on the property and the Orange Juice is the best I have ever had...there are a couple of other stands before you get to UPick, so don't be fooled as they are just outlets for packaged fruit...UPICK is a little family orchard that is great and well worth the extra drive if you are going all the way to WalMart anyway...FYI, the Walmart is way off of highway 27 and the sign is actually small...it is the first stop light north on 27...you cannot see the store from the highway...

Giordano's is our favorite! We're from Chicago, so we're biased of course, but they have very good pizza / Italian and deliver to most of the local resorts, Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms, Emerald Island. We love to order a pizza on one night of our trip and just let the kids swim in the pool at home.

My sister and brother in law actually own 2 Giordano's here at home (there's a bunch of them here locally..famous Chicagoland pizza place), so we were SO excited to see one there right on 192!!

Unfortunately they seem to have hired the mentally challenged to work the phones at the local one there on 192...every time we've called it's been a struggle to get them to figure out our order! LOL We gave them our local phone # and they said... "are you the xxx family?"....sigh...no we're the Quinlan's but it's the same address... "oh.... are you the Jones family? ...." LOL..it's a rental property people all kinds of people have ordered from here probably before! "Oh... are you the Smith family? " LOL... was one of the funnier conversations I've overheard but not when my wife is tired and cranky from a long hot day in the parks! =p
