Hi,
This is my first post here but I have been reading lots of threads :-))
I am going to book a weeks vacation in March and was hoping someone could reccommend a condo in Emerald Island, I have seen the resort before but never stayed there. :cool1: :goodvibes

Hi Hazel and welcome,

I have stayed at www.orlando-rental-home.com as have some other members of the boards, its a great place and in a great location and best of all its not expensive. I have stayed there now a number of times and have become friendly with the owners Tim and Elle. Elle is actually also a member of these boards. Thier place in my opinion is the best situated of all the Townhomes at EI.

Have a super time :-))

Welcome to the DIS!!! I prefer to rent direct, the money savings just seems to be so worth it. I'd check possibly, www.vrbo.com to get started. :)

Well thanks for the advise, I contacted Tim and have booked his place for our vacation, $500 for the week for 6 of us :cool1: I did not imagine it would be so easy to do, they are VERY nice people. Hazel

Could you PM or post the link this is exactly the price range I am looking for for our upcoming trip.

Wow! These look nice! To bad its not at Fort Lauderdale....:guilty:

Because we are looking for exactly that kind of place for our next holidays vacation in december 2007..

If any of you have some experience with something similar in Fort Lauderdale or somewhere else near Fort Lauderdale, I would be very happy that you pm me!

Thanks!;)

Its the place that Martina posted/linked, it is owned by a guy called Tim who was really flexible to deal with, It says I cannot post a link yet as I have not made 10 posts :-(( Hazel

As I said in my earlier post I have stayed here and it is a stunning place, I am fortunate enough to have been to disney a lot of times and stayed on a lot of the resorts, Emerald Island for me is the nicest, it is just so relaxing and peaceful. It is also nice to be able to deal with good honest people, I had their condo recommended to me on here ages ago and will be forever grateful.

Thank you thank you thank you,

WE LOVE EI the villa that we normally book was taken during the week we wanted but we cannot afford some of the others. This is the right price range and plus staying in EI. EI is beautiful and very peaceful. Thanks again, DISERS!!

I would love to hear what you all think of EI.

As an owner I am not there as often as I would like to. We all vacation differently and I own a home not a villa so I am not using the pools other then our own.

You will be happy to know they are opening Feb. 15 the tikki bar. I hope to be there at the opening.

I hope your stay there is great. Have fun.

We'll be back for our second stay at Emerald Island in 40 days (not that I'm counting or anything:))! We stayed there in a 4 bedroom villa in March 2005 for a week and loved it so much that we're staying for two weeks this time. We were so impressed with the quality of the resort and facilities, the close proximity to WDW and shopping. Can't wait, and can't recommend it highly enough to anyone considering staying there.

We stayed in a town home in the smaller section of EI where you go through a gate and enter a code instead of going through the main gate where there is a guard. We absolutely did not like the trash situation of having to take our own trash to a dumster. I'm not sure if all of the town homes have this trash situation or if it's only those in the smaller, separate section. I understand that the individual homes have trash pick-up at the curb.

The people before us left 2 bags of trash on the curb outside our town home. Well, within a day animals had gotten into it, so trash was then scattered all over. Really nice thing to come back to each evening. :sad2: We reported it to the staff at the clubhouse, but they didn't seem really concerned. After about 5 days the landscape company came around to mow, and we think they picked it up so they could mow.

The landscapers had also dumped a giant pile of mulch right outside the dumsters where there were parking spaces and an area to turn around as you dropped off your trash. On several days, the landscaper's vehicles were also parked there, so we couldn't even get our vehicle close to the dumster at all! We had to wait in a line of cars or park quite a ways down, and then walk our trash where we then had the wonderful task of physically touching this nasty dumpster to open it up and deposit our trash. It was tricky to figure out how to get the door opened, and many people obviously gave up and just left their trash sitting outside the dumster.

We also regularly saw someone with a uniform on that said "security" who was going through the trash looking for "treasures". In other words, he was dumster-diving. This security guard wouldn't move out of the way so we could put our trash in! My DH said "excuse me", and the guy just ignored him and kept sifting through the trash. DH finally just sort of dumped our trash bags over the guy into the dumster. It was totally ridiculous! I don't know if this was someone from EI security or somewhere else, but we saw the same guy there several days.

I also thought that outside street lighting was inadequate in the section we were in, and actually didn't feel incredibly safe there at night. We had noisy neighbors outside playing music very loudly a couple of nights and my DH had to go out and ask them to keep the noise down. There appeared to be no security around that section at all.

We will not be staying at EI in the separate town home section again. I'm open to trying one of the individual homes in the future as I think the issues we had would not exist in that other section, and the resort around the main clubhouse looked very nice, but the trash and general security situation in the smaller section will definitely keep us from going back there.

I did not know about the trash situation before we reserved & paid, although I did find out about it here on the DIS before our stay there. I just wanted others to be aware. I'd strongly recommend EI owners to do what they can to find another way to handle trash at the town homes as this is really unacceptable IMO.

The place we are talking about is not in that section, I must say I did think that the homes in that place were kind of "detached" from the rest of the resort. I would not want to be in that part.
