We are renting a car in Oct. So far the best rates I seem to get are with National using a coupon/contract #.

I know I can join the Emerald Club for free from Mousesavers, but I get so worried entering my CC information in and being charged. I am sure some of you have joined this & have you had any problems or have been charged for joining.

We joined Hertz last year and were not charged. It was great to just go to the car and drive away

I've had free Emerald Club since 1998 and have had no problems. At that time, someone had posted a phone # to call to get a "fee waived" application.

The link posted is for a free membership. You card will not be charged. It will include the contract code for this agency (which you can change when you make your reservation) and that code makes it default to a free membership. A member of my family joined this way without any problems at all.

We joined this way in 1999 and have never been charged. In fact our nat profile has us listed as ec members till 2037.

Likewise here, EC member since '99, never a nickel charged to CC for it. Got the number from either here or Mary's Mousesaver site. I also have a Hertz #1 Gold, free.

I joined by using the instructions on the Mousesavers site just a few months ago. I was not charged any enrollment fee and I am very satisfied with the added benefits of this program. I haven't used it yet, but I already have a couple of reservations made through the Emerald Reserve program and understand it to be a tremendous convenience and timesaver. They'll even take your frequent flyer number at the time that you sign up and automatically apply it to every one of your reservations (no more problems with forgetting to ask at the rental counter).
