Emerald Club question

We've just joined the Emerald Club with National and look forward to bypassing the counter. We had originally reserved a full size car but now that we're with Emerald Club the reservation is for an intermediate.

My question is: If there are no cars larger than intermediate when we arrive in Orlando and check the Emerald Aisle can we take a larger car from the Executive Aisle and just pay the difference? I think the difference in cost on their website for a weekly rental during the 2nd week of June for a full size vs. an intermediate is less than $10. I would rather pay the extra $$$ than be crammed in a car that is too small.

TIA,
Rhonda

Why not just reserve a full size car on Emerald Reserve? Works the same way as EA except that you go to the ER aisle and take a full-size car. That way you will at least have the car you want reserved and not have to try and upgrade in the parking lot.

I do not think it will be possible to upgrade after you check out what's there.

I'd just book a full size using Emerald Reserve and then head to the full size aisle.

EA is only Intermediates so if you really need something bigger than I'd book it.

The Executive Aisle is only for members who have reached the Executive level.

I agree with the others here. If you need a larger car, the time to book it is now. You can use Emerald Reserve and get the car class you need and still bypass the counter. I doubt that National would allow someone to pick a car out of their Executive area since they have designed that to used by their most frequent customers. The best you could do would be to pick a full size car from the full size aisle, but I am sure it won't be the 10.00 extra if that it is now on the website. When you upgrade at the counter or gate you are at the mercy of the agent and they will charge you a daily upcharge fee, probably anywhere from 3.00 a day to 10.00 or more per day.

I think I will just book the full size. I've never used EA before and I was thinking you could only reserve an intermediate.

MCO last week and reserved a full size, but to be safe, 5 adults. On the Aisle they had, buick century's,pt cruisers, impalas, monte carlos, i think that was it, about 20 to choice from. But no big upgrades.

I just joined EC and when I tryed to reserve a full size w/ENT $20 coupon, site would not allow. I already have a full size reserved (reserved before I joined EC) with Carlson Code & ENT Coupon.

Is it possible to call National and adjust my ressie so I don't have to wait at the counter but still keep the same rate?

I got a rate of $357.86 for 14 days (7/10-7/24) + tx, total $457.06 for full size. I am still trying to do better but no luck so far.

I am a little confused on what I can use the EC benefits for. It certainly didn't help with the rate.

Thanks
Mary Ann

Benefits of the EC are that you can bypass the counter and go and get your car. Other benefits are outlined on the website.
Try not using the Carlson contract code and use 6600330 instead.
Make a new reservation, don't try to modify, it gets buggy.
The contract code I just gave you is from Priceless vacations and can be used by anyone. You are also going over a very "hot" time for rental cars and vacations. I would not expect a super low rate.

HI, If I belong to EC and use an Entertainment coupon can I stll bypass the counter and go right to my car?? THanks, Joan

Yes, I always have.

I made a new ressie using the $20 off coupon instead of the 2 class upgrade and it still says I need to go to the counter. But, I'm saving a few bucks by using the $20 off coupon so I just went ahead and cancelled the other one with the upgrade. I called National and they confirmed that indeed you do have to go the counter with the coupon.

We're checking luggage so DH can get the car while DM, DS and I grab the bags. Oh, well. I guess for me the extra $$$ is worth the wait (which I hope won't be too long!).

Thanks to everyone for their advise. At least now I know we'll have a car that's big enough.

Rhonda,
You were misinformed. With dollar off coupons, you can go to the aisle. Call them and have them switch it to either the aisle or choice. You are a member of Emerald Club, right?

I had friends that used the $20 off Ent. coupon at Easter. They picked up their car from the EA, drove to the exit booth, gave the clerk their reservation confirmation and coupon and drove out. They did not have to go inside to the counter. BTW, you only have to present the coupon, you do not have to show your Ent. card.

You also have to choose Emerald reserve. when you select the car size the box next to it has to be checked too. Click on it, it should show emerald reserve and counter. Click on Emerald reserve.

Sometimes national is quirky!!

i find that if I reenter the info.....sometimes just the car type and hit show quote again it works.

Sometimes you have to try over and over to get it to go through.

The problem was I did not know that EC members had a different link to choose when making a reservation. I was just using the general rates and reservations button and entering in my contract code thinking that was how they would know we had EC.

Gail, your question about if we were EC members or not made me realize I must have been missing something.

Now, I have a ressie I booked after logging into EC and then I chose Emerald Reserve vs. Counter and it worked. We have a full-size for the week and we can still use the $$$ off coupon and by-pass the counter. Thank you everyone for helping me work through all this. It's my first time trying to use EC (if that isn't obvious!).

when I got to work this am, I thought you might not have been signing in via the EC members area, but, I don't access the internet from work (WAY too busy). I am glad you got it "together" and don't worry, we were all first timers once. :)
