Emerald Club question

I was told recently that if I join National's Emerald Club and make a reservation that the rate will automatically lower as the travel dates approach. Has anyone used this and had success?

I have not found that to be the case, however, National is highly dependent on any contract codes, etc.

If you're saying that the rate goes down the closer you get to travel, that is typically the opposite of the way the rates behave and a last minute reservation is the most expensive.

Never heard of that. There is no "automatic", you have to keep trying and if the rate lowers, cancel and rebook.

Ok, thanks so much! I got a much better rate from Alamo for the SUV I wanted, so I'll keep checking National, but seems that I'm better off with what I have booked, both for the rate and to make sure I get what I want. Thanks!

No, that does not happen, you have to check and modify yourself.

Same company, same vehicles, so, go with the lowest. If they don't have what you want on the row, just ask, if it is available and in the class you rented, they will get it for you.
