Emerald Club - Additional Driver

Just joined National's Emerald Club,
how do I select an Additional Driver?
Can I do this in advance when making a reservation or do I wait until I pick up the car? How does this work?

Going by memory, and not looking it up, but as I remember the "no charge" additional driver is either your spouse or your business associate. I'm not sure you can pick anyone you want. I have never registered my spouse, but he has been my additional driver.

Yes, I know it can be your spouse or a family member. What I was asking is how do you let National know the name of the person, so they can put it on the reservation (if they do that).
Do you do that in advance, when you pick up the car, or not at all? The EC website says that the addtl. driver has to have a driver's license and credit card in their name, so there must be a way that they check this.

If it is your spouse you don't need to do anything, it's automatic.
For family members who have the same address, you need to add them at the kiosk when you check out.

Ok, so if I register for Emerald Isle membership my husband can be the additional driver at no extra cost? I was going to register the other day in my name but I know I won't be driving.

Authorized Drivers
Free (in the United States and Canada) - An Emerald Club members' spouse, immediate family member living with him/her, business partner, employer, or fellow associate who has an assigned corporate contract with National and drives the car for business purposes. All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.

If you register for Emerald Club then your spouse is covered at no extra cost. If you rent the car, you have to pick up the car.

I had a problem with National charging me an additional driver fee for my husband, even though I was an Emerald Club member. However, when I pointed the error out to them, they promptly refunded the fee to my credit card. I think the problem was that we have different last names.
