Emerald Aisle vs Emerald Reserve Question

Last year we rented from National and we are members of the Emerald Club. The best rate at that time was for a standard SUV. We walked around the rows trying to figure out what was considered a std SUV (to me, it was not labeled well). There were no employees around to help, and we finally cornered one of guys that cleans the cars and puts them back in the row for rental, and figured out what we could take. What I did notice, though, was for the smaller cars (sub-compact and compact) there were either no cars or 1 or 2. Generally we rent one of those, as it is just DH & myself.

My question for anyone who rents regularly from National. I have searched the website and can't find what you should do if there are no cars in the class you reserved. All of the classes except the intermediates are considered Emerald reserve. I know that generally if you rent a car where you have to go thru the reservation desk, they will assign you a car that is an upgrade if your class is not available (which ALWAYS happens to us). So, if I have Emerald Reserve and there is not a compact in the row, what can I do? Can we take an upgrade ourselves? I figured that I'd ask here, because we get in next Tuesday around 10pm, and if we can't find an employee again, I want to know what to do.

Thanks!

The last time my daughter used ER for a full size, there were no full sizes and the rep sent her to select a full size car from Alamo.

Same thing happened to us in December. We had Emerald Reserve Full Size reserved with National and they sent us over to Alamo. Our next trip we booked an Intermediate Emerald Aisle.

Thank you! It sure beats wandering aimlessly around the parking garage at 10 or 11pm!

There is a booth in the garage you can go to, there should be an employee there.

My understanding that the Emerald Aisle service is Intermediate and up. You wont find compact or economy car in the EA. It says on the website :
Make your reservation for an intermediate vehicle confirming Emerald Aisle Service at participating locations.
When you arrive at the location, go directly to the Emerald Club Aisle, choose from any available car.
Remember that you can choose any car on the Aisle for the price of the reserved intermediate.
