Embassy Suites Anaheim South Questions

We have a week long family trip planned at the end of May and have reservations at the Embassy Suites Anaheim South. I saw some not so stellar reviews today and am wondering if I've made a bad choice. We've been to DL lots of times but have never stayed here. We like being farther down on Harbor and hotels with their own shuttles. We like to take advantage of breakfast but also like to see some healthier options on the menu. We enjoy swimming and soaking in the Jacuzzi at the end of the day. Also, we have a teenage son that will be sleeping on the sofa. He prefers just to sleep on it without pulling it out so I'm wondering if it's a long sofa or a short one. I trust your opinions and will be grateful for any information you can provide. Thanks!!

We stayed there in October for a few nights and we have no complaints about the room or service. I think my DH took the kid swimming when we were there but I didn't go with them and they don't remember much about it. We found it cheaper to drive and park at the Toy Story Lot than to pay for the ART shuttle but that depends on how many people are in your group. The breakfast was fine the mornings we had time to eat it. The Sofa bed is only a double, so it's not terribly long when it isn't made up into a bed so I guess it would depend on the size of your son.

We prefer to stay across from the park or on site, but stayed there because we had HH points to use (and the $$ saved allowed us to stay on site for a couple of nights that same trip). We are staying there again next weekend when we first get into town before moving down the street to the Tropicana to be closer to the park.

Hope that helps.

We have our Aug trip booked at this hotel also, never stayed there before. DH is a HH Gold member so we want to stick with their properties. Last Oct we were at the Doubletree but at $50 more a night for 6 nights we opted to try Embassy plus get breakfast for free. I hope you enjoy your stay there, report back if you can!

Thanks for the info, scrapshappen. I appreciate that you took the time to share what you know about the ES property!

We love ES Anaheim South. So far out of all of the hotels we have stayed at this is our favorite. The breakfast is awesome!!! They have scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, breakfast meat like bacon & sausage, danish & muffins, made to order omelets & potatoes, cereal, coffee, tea, milk, juice, & coke soda fountain beverages which for me was great because I still crave caffeine but don't drink coffee. Its a breakfast buffet. I have to say its the best free breakfast we have gotten at all the hotels we have stayed at. The beds are comfortable too. The couch pull out bed is a double like the other op stated. If your son is tall he might want to pull out the bed. I definitely recommend this hotel.

GenGen22, thanks for sharing your positive thoughts about the ES. I'm beginning to feel a lot more comfortable about my choice now. If May would just hurry up and get here.... :)

We just spent 5 nights there last week.

On the shuttle; it's not just for the ES South. It also services 2 other hotels on both sides of the ES South. The lines get very long so I'd be early. We walked out our first morning to take the shuttle, took a look, and opted to drive every day. We are rope drop people so maybe mid morning the shuttle wouldn't be so packed.

The sofa is short. We needed extra blankets to soften it up. The mattress was very thin. The king bed however was awesome with nice fluffy pillows.

The pool was nice and the hot tub on the larger size. Some of the jets didn't work but it was nice and hot. They warm the pool towels which is a nice touch.

Some other thoughts.....the free hot breakfast was excellent. Get there early though or the lines become crazy, especially the omelette line. The manager's reception serves well alcohols and Bud on tap. It worked okay for us. The snacks are goldfish crackers, Chex mix, chips/salsa, and hummus with pita bread. The kids have access to soda, lemonade, milk. They enjoyed it.

Housekeeping did a great job and we found all the staff very nice.

The room was clean but the tap water in the bathroom had this funky smell so we all used the bar sink to brush teeth. Could have been just our room. The bar tap didn't smell at all.

The mini fridge was normal sized and the room also has a microwave and plenty of closet/drawer space.

All in all it was fine a place to stay on Harbor. Would I stay there again? Probably. In fact we've got a night at the end of April and we are contemplating the ES South or the Hampton Inn.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks, rentayenta! I appreciate all of the details you included in your post. We plan to use the shuttle and are rope drop people, too, so I'll make sure we get downstairs in plenty of time. The info on the sofa bed was great. I know they usually aren't very comfy when pulled out. We have a really nice queen airbed, so I think I'll throw it in a suitcase just in case. Glad to hear the hot tub was nice and hot. I think that matters more at the end of the day than the jets. If you end up staying at the Hampton Inn later this month, I would love to hear your thoughts comparing the two properties. I also have a second reservation (for a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen) at that property for our trip and can still choose between the two.

Mouse 13, we have also stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites & IMO ES is a much nicer hotel. The breakfast at Hampton Inn was cereal, yogurt, waffle station and hot items that vary day by day like scrambled eggs bacon or sausage etc. but not as nice ES not anywhere near as nice. The beds at ES are more comfortable too. I guess I was really impressed with ES :). The pool was ok & they also had towels by the pool at Hampton.

Thanks for letting me know about the Hampton Inn, GenGen22. With all the info I'm getting, it looks like ES will be where we stay. Also, I was looking at your countdown ticker and it looks like we'll be in the parks around the same time. We arrive on May 20 and I can hardly wait. We haven't been since Spring Break of last year and that's way too long for me! :flower:
