Email Warning from Disney Destinations

And just saw the Chase email this morning - so one from Collegeboard, one from Chase and two from Disney Destinations so far.

I actually got two from Disney Destinations....One for each of the two email addresses I have. I felt pretty secure though, because I have not been getting a lot of extra spam.

It is probably more of a problem for the banks involved in the theft of email addresses and customer names. Emails could appear using your name and apparently from a enterprise you know attempting to get you to go to websites where they will request you login and password or other information (SSN, Mothers maiden name, etc).

One reason never to follow a link in an email.

Always go to you banking/brokerage sites directly via their home pages.

I got one from Disney Destinations and my DH did too on another email account.

My spam this morning had 17 emails - 15 of them said test :confused3

I got two of the blank Disney Destination emails a day or so ago and two email warnings today.

I got it too.

Haven't seen any spam emails yet and hopefully it stays that way.

Yes, I got the email. My question is, can we do anything to protect ourselves? Should we be worried?

I'm pushing 50 and not very tech savvy. Any advice would be appreciated.

Some suggestions from a slightly tech person

1. Do not open any attachments that you don't recognize or are expecting
2. If an email suddenly asks you to verify your private information as a result of this hacking, don't do it. No banks, brokerages or credit card companies send emails to verify information over email.
3. If you are single and start getting a lot of emails from match.com, its probably OK, especially if they indicate they are rich. :lovestruc

Up to 4 companies now......Disney Destinations, HSN, Chase and Target.....no increase in spam so far.....not sure I could tell, I get so much anyway.

Saw this list earlier of companies affected:

Best Buy, J.P. Morgan Chase, Citibank, CollegeBoard, Walgreens, Disney, Barclay’s Bank, U.S. Bancorp, Marriott, Ritz Carlton, L.L. Bean, Home Shopping Network, Target, TiVo.

Just heard from Chase.

Just got notices from Martiott and Hilton, both who used the same company as Disney. Seems like this is a wide spread problem. Certainly can't blame Disney.

You can add Home Depot as well. Heard from them today.

Have not received it from Disney...but I have received the same message from at least 4 or 5 other companies.
