Disclaimer: she is one of the highly recommended AAA agents that tons of DISers use and books large volumes of WDW trips. She said their office has spoken to Disney about the pin code ressies that were made recently. She said Disney will honor ALL pin code ressies as long as they have "money" on those reservations. I know it is another 2nd hand story, but I thought I'd pass on what WDW told them.

Again --- THIS response sounds like a reasonable and practical response given the situation and the number of reservations involved..

It may SEEM like a large number of reservations to us DIS'ers.. But in the grand scheme of all reservations Disney will take this year.. It's nothing.

Very cool, & just what I suspected!

I am sending you a pm...

Triplefig- any chance you could pass along that AAA agents name and contact info? I wasn't thrilled with who we booked with last year and we are about to book for Jan '08. The CR is calling us back again!:goodvibes
Thanks!

Doesn't surprise me. Easiest way for Disney to avoid further embarassment. Also, easiest way for them to not accept responsibility - Blow it under the rug.

Not sure what you mean by "further embarassment" or how it's "blow(ing) it under the rug" ???

Disney was very embarassed about the whole code fiasco this time around (at least that's what I heard through the grapevine.)

By blowing it under the rug (or is it sweeping), they're just trying to get past it and pretend it didn't happen. Instead of upsetting dozens (if not more) of people who were given the discount even though they didn't have the code, they probably figure just suck up the minor loss (which it really isn't) and let it go.

It remains to be seen if it will be swept under the rug. This last Friday, I heard pretty much the same thing, and that the code fiasco was a colossal mess and it was taking alot of time to straighten out. But, DON'T FLAME ME, cause I am NOT a hater of anyone getting the rates, I hope you can keep them, but this Disney person I spoke to said rates would not be honored for non pin holders and would revert back to rack. I know, I know, it is "ALL" speculation, blah, blah, blah................

Speculation indeed.

To this point in time nobody has been called and told you must pay more or cancel. Until that happens.. it's all speculation..

Thanks for explaining your interpretation, Boom...I was unclear.

It seems to me that by honoring the reservations, Disney is honorably taking responsiblity for their mistake, be it a CM or computer problem.

I still contend that Disney did not loose any money on this "fiasco". They had a certain number of rooms set aside for 40% and when they were gone they were gone, regardless if the person who booked them had a Pin or not. They know exactly how many rooms the can offer at a promotional rate and still make money because of the rooms they will sell at RAC. From a PR perspective this may have been a mess (and I still think that the amount of people affected by this whole thing is so tiny in the grand scheme of things that it was more of an administrative mess than a PR mess) but I definitely don't think it had any kind of negative financial impact.

Just my two cents - :)

They are still backing up the Brinks truck. There is no way that more people responded + received the promos then the anticapated when the mailed/e- mailed it out. :disrocks:

I think Disney made money off of this one LOL. I know they made it off of me. By offering this so early I was able to book 2 trips instead of the one that I was going to book. Outside of these boards I don't think that anyone else in the world even knows what happened so I don't think I would consider this a PR mess. I think that a small percentage of the small percentage of people who read these boards were upset. I would bet that this was hardly a blip on Disney's screen when you take into account the number of people who are booking with them on a daily basis and know nothing of the boards. (This was me for the last two trips I took before I became blissfully aware of the boards and paid rack rate both times.) According to the poll being done on another thread there are only about 50 or so people who got the discount without the PIN. Hardly a PR nightmare even if you triple that figure to account for people who didnt answer the poll. I have a postcard and so am not concerned about losing my rate but really I am not concerned about others losing theirs either. I think this was a very good way for Disney to use a marketing tool to get rooms booked early. Nothing better to sell something than to make people think they are getting something they shouldn't be getting. I say way to go Disney

However you look at it.. it certainly sounds like they are honoring the reservations. And that's a good thing.

So far, only 59 people have signed the "I used the code and didn't get a pin" thread.. in the grand scheme of things.. 60 people is NOTHING.

We were one of the *lucky* ones to get the code without a postcard. but I can appreciate the frustration someone may feel who did not. I hope a promo comes their way as well :)
