:wave2: Hey WISHER's, I was wondering if anyone had an workouts for the elliptical machine?

I work out all the time mostly the treadmill/weights BUT I have been using the elliptical consistently since May ... I love it. :thumbsup2

Right now I do a 3 minute warm up on level 5 then go to level 12 for 20 minutes. Then back down slowly, 11, 10, 9 etc until I have done a 45 minute w/o. I also go backwards as well.

I have quite a few programs on the elliptical that I could use BUT I want to hear from any of you that use the elliptical on a pretty regular basis and what is your w/o regimen on the machine. :thumbsup2

Hi momrek06,

I have been consistently doing the elliptical for a few months now between 3-6 times a week. When I started out I could only muster about 15 minutes on a resistance of 1-4. Now I usually do 20-30 minutes using a heart rate program on my machine.

This program keeps my heart rate between 155-175 which is the optimal range for fat burning for my age (24). The programs I use start at either resistance 2 or 3 and go up to resistance 8 or 9 respectively. I can really feel these workouts too! with a 20 min I burn at least 300 cals and with the 30 min I have burnt as much as 456 cals which I think is great!

I like the changes in resistance because it keeps you motivated and keeps me from getting bored. For the heart rate programs the resistance goes up and down for the duration so your body gets some "rest periods" and doesn't tire out too fast. I love it! And of course the programs start and end on a low resistance which is a great warm up and cool down. Between the elliptical, weights, jump rope, and the ab lounger I have lost 10 pounds so far and now the pounds are starting to fall off now that my metabolism has finally kicked in to gear and I am eating healthier.

Thanks for posting!!! I think I will try that program when I go today. I will look on my elliptical and see if I can figure it out ... the programs on this elliptical at my gym have all these fancy names like "trailblazer" etc ... not really sure what any of them do. :confused3 That is half the reason I never use the programs on the machine. I always chose MANUAL and then do my w/o!

Awesome about your weight loss!!! :thumbsup2

This has been a lifestyle change for me from back in 1985 after I had my second DS. I gained over 65 pounds ... lost it all but took me close to a year and have not put any weight back on at all. All through Weight Watchers and working out. :goodvibes Living in SoCal, we do have allot of choices as our weather is fabulous at least 10 months out of the year. BUT I do love the gym and all that that has to offer.

Well, I'm not fancy with mine. I get my heart rate up, and then I read a book or I watch my shows (Dr. Who, Supernatural and Glee) or I watch some music videos off You Tube while I keep it in the aerobic range for about 40 minutes. It gets the job done and I don't get bored. I've been doing this for 4 years and I think it's been a good long term plan!

Funny, I have belong to many gyms over the years and usually always hit the treadmill ... I used to use the ellipticial intermittenly ... so in May I jumped on it one day and really loved it more than I have ... now it is August and I have been using "e" consistently since May. Last week the ellipticals were all in use, jumped on treadmill for a 15 minute run and then when the "e" was free, went there for 30+ minutes!

Believe it or not I am seeing much more toning then with the treadmill. The definition in my legs alone makes me smile! :thumbsup2

There is a great website www.itrain.com that has workouts you can download to your ipod, or mp3 player. The workouts are really good and they are listed by level of difficulty and length. They also have them for treadmills and cycling.
