OK--I wondered if this was done on purpose?? The cast member said no less than 5 times about the length of the ride, you cannot leave, etc etc etc. Right as the doors were closing, a guy got up and walked into the aisle and then got back in.

Next thing we knew, the ENTIRE thing had to be shut down for one hour.

It is safety protocol and I'm fine with that but I can't help but notice how purposeful the guy seemed. Is there any history on this????

Yes.
That is standard operating procedure, unfortunately.

If a guest attempts to leave the theater seating, the entire ride must be shut-down and re-started, which can take 45-60 minutes.

Well, I am thinking other posts, maybe. I would like to send them to my sister who thought he was having a legit anxiety attack but I heard him planning to head over to TT so I was doubtful!!

Yes, there have been many threads here about this happening on Ellen's Energy Adventure.

The bad news:
The search on the DIS doesn't work (and I just tried a GOOGLE search, no good) so you may never FIND any of them.

Sorry.

I don't know how anyone could know the "condition" of the person who got up and tried to leave.
A NUT, no doubt, but what KIND of nut would be a tough call.

I'm just trying to figure out why anyone would want to stand up during this ride. :confused3 My family always finds an empty row so they can lie down! :rotfl2:

Probably some guy who realized how long that show/ride is and decided he would rather ride TT ...

1) The ride gets an E-Stop (Emergency Stop).
2) Everything stops.
3) All computer cycles must halt where they are.
4) It takes a while to recycle everything and bring them into sync.
5) After all, a dinosaur in mid "ROAR!" would continue as a muffled "snarf".
) And how scary is a dino that goes "snarf" all day?

It was extremely frustrating. The poor cast members were getting yelled at and they were only following protocol.

The guy was definitely NOT in distress. I was suspicious but mad because that was the only time we had to ride Ellen and our 17 year old nephew had never been to WDW and won't get back for years.

One stunt by one person, really not a very nice thing to do. Obviously in need of some power trip...maybe not enough hugs when he was a child.

Don't send him my way... no hugs for him here, either!

;)

Well a dino that goes "snarf" would be easier to sleep through! Those silly dinos kept interrupting our nap last time. :rotfl:

Right--no hugs here either, and that's saying alot.

Also, thanks for confirming that the search doesn't work. I thought I was was inept and non-magical.

See, this is why I won't go on this ride again. I get clausterphobic, and the thought of being trapped really gets to me! If I know I can leave when I want to, I am fine. But if I know I am stuck, I start to freak out, and bad things can happen!

It seems kind of wierd that they have a ride that is 40 minutes long, and yet you are trapped in it. What if your child is sick? Do they stop the whole ride? What if you have a family emergency? I wouldn't want to be responsible for the whole ride shutting down. To much to worry about, no way will I go on it again!

i definitely understand feeling that way and that's why I think they make such a massive point about stating twice in the preshow and again (I'm not kidding) about 5 times before it starts that the show is such and such long with loud noises and dark spaces.

The CM gave lots and lots of chances to bail. It was only as the doors closed that this guy stood up, walked into the aisle and then cl;imbed back in. It really seemed pretty planned.

I for sure agree that the ride is not for everyone. I think they do a good job letting you change your mind with plenty of time to spare.

You won't be STUCK in any claustrophobic manner.

The ride has the widest-open spaces in all of WDW.

What happens in an emergency Stop on Ellen is they stop the films, stop the effects, turn on all the work lights and you can simply walk out of the building.

Yes.

If you need assistance that requires you to exit, they must stop the entire attraction.

Although in litereally dozens of rides, we have never had an E-Stop during the ride.

And only ONE before the beginning of the ride.
