Elisabeth Hasselbeck annoys me!

I don't think Rosie initial comment was taken out of context at all. She said that 655,000 civilians have been killed in Iraq and then looked at Elisabeth and said who are the terrorists now? If she meant that she could understand why the Iraqis could see us as terrorists she never said that. Either she didn't express herself properly or she really believes what she said initially. Either way I think it's silly that she's playing the victim now because when you make comments like the one she did you should expect a huge emotional reaction. I think she knew she'd get one and is enjoying every minute of this.
.

ITA.......and,

I do like Elisabeth:)

I like elisbeth to  . I used to like Rosie but she likes to Label everyone:rolleyes1 imop. She has to label if you are democrat or republican Gay or straight. Personally I am getting sick of it! I love Rosies comedy she cracks me up, But I am so sick of hearing about the political crap. If Rosie is so passionate let her run for office and make some changes, quit the gripeing and do something:idea: . She has more of a voice than my local mayor. Lets have her do something insted of having a family vacation package:scared1: ( I am not nocking her vacations either) .

Of course, Hasselbeck could've answered a direct "yes or no" question with a direct "yes or no" answer. That ought to tell people she does think O'Donnell called the troops terrorists. Hasselbeck just doesn't have the guts to come right out with it.

Weasels like Hasselbeck represent her political compadres very well.

I agree.

I watched the clip this morning for the first time. I think the EH was way out of line, and totally diverted the conversation. I think Joy compiled a valid list, and the EH used diversion to avoid the subject.

I'm not a fan of Rosie, never have been, but she was quiet the first few minutes, and then EH would not answer her direct question. EH drank the Bush kool-aid, and she did a lot of back peddling, but never did give a direct answer.

Did Rosie Call Our Troops Terrorists?

The is directly from the transcripts of The View for May 17th:

O’DONNELL: …… I just want to say something. 655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?
HASSELBECK: Who are the terrorists?
O’DONNELL: 655,000 Iraqis — I’m saying you have to look, we invaded –
HASSELBECK: Wait, who are you calling terrorists now? Americans?
O’DONNELL: I’m saying if you were in Iraq, and the other country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?
HASSELBECK: Are we killing their citizens or are their people also killing their citizens?
O’DONNELL: We’re invading a sovereign nation, occupying a country against the U.N.

I just watched Chris Matthews and his panel of journalists including Howard Feinman, Jill Zuckman, and Jonathan Capehart. Matthews asked the panel after replaying that segment of the show if she in fact said that our troops were the terrorists. They unanimously agreed with Matthews that she did call our troops terrorists. That conforms with the majority of journalists who have reported on this comment.

Rosie does not mention the troops at all in that segment of the show. She poses a rhetorical question. “Who are the terrorists?” “I’m saying if you were in Iraq, and the other country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?”In both of her rhetorical questions she refers to the “United States” and “us.” The policy of the United States or “our” policy in Iraq is not the responsibility of the soldiers who are ordered to execute the policy. It is obvious that state supported terrorism can only be implemented by those who have the responsibility of doing the fighting and dying. But, it is not the soldiers who are the terrorists in that hypothetical. And she was not calling the soldiers terrorists.

It is absolutely absurd that these journalists agreed with the interpretation that Matthews and the majority of the MSM had concluded. These journalists who are supposed to be experts on language and communication certainly know that she meant that the U.S. policy was the villain here and not the soldiers. Yet they persist in accusing the accusers who do not fit into their elite club. People like Rosie and others who have been branded as eccentric and outside the main stream are always fair game. They do it with many others who speak truth to power by carefully portraying sound bites out of context. They have done that to Noam Chomsky and Gore Vidal for years.

The truth is that it was the elite reporters like the Hardball panel aforementioned who aided and abetted the rush to war in Iraq and fostered the terrorist policy that has resulted in this catastrophe. So it is not Rosie who is the villain. It is journalists like these who have to rationalize their lack of courage and appropriate skepticism of a “policy” that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of our soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis.

THANK GOD 4 SHELLY "

Actually she is very involved in issues relating to children, poverty and our troops.

Are we all noticing a pattern here? - Rosie didn't like not being in control of her old show, she quit, Rosie wanted complete control of her mag (which was REALLY DUMB bytheway) she wanted to quit, but when they wouldn't let her out, she started shaving her head and not wearing makeup and basically was so miserable that they had to fold the mag and many people lost their jobs. Rosie doesn't have complete control over the view, she can't play nice with people with different views, she wants to cry cry cry all the home. Why can't she just grow up and be professional?
ITA.
She is not only mad about EH, but at the show and the producers for doing the split screen thing and allowing them to continue and not go to commercial.
At one point, Sherri tried to move on and say that they'd be back after the commercial with Alicia Silverstone, and Rosie said something like "Oh no...we've got time" and on it went. Seems like she wanted it on her terms again. Typical.

It's the barking at people that I can't stand about Rosie, whether I agree with something she says or not. I'm sure there are plenty of Democrats out there that don't want to be associated with her. She doesn't DISCUSS anything.
then EH would not answer her direct question.
YES SHE DID. ::yes:: She just didn't answer the way Rosie DEMANDED and then go slinking away like Rosie expected.

ITA There is nothing more nausiating than a performer who lets all the attention go to their head and then they start thinking they actually know something. I so miss the comedy. there is nothing funny about Rosie now. Same with Franken, streisand , and a gagillian others. For goodness sake, Tome Crusie let it all go to head so much he thinks he is some religious figure and knows more about psychiatry than psychiatrists, and can heal people with a sauna and some vitamins. Having your mug on TV alot DOES NOT qualify you for political office or anything else but acting.

YES SHE DID, you just couldn't hear it over Rosie screaming "Why can't you answer me Elisabeth?"

YES SHE DID, you just couldn't hear it over Rosie screaming "Why can't you answer me Elisabeth?"

I shall give the clip another viewing, I just don't remember her giving a direct answer. I'll listen again, I could be wrong.

Here's why: Because there wasn't a lot of wiggle room in the question. You either think someone meant something or you didn't. There's isn't a lot of nuane in "do you think I called the troops terrorists"? Where's the wiggle room?

Elizabeth said "I don't think that.....", but of course she didn't get to finish. She was giving an answer, and I bet if Rosie had kept her mouth shut and listened she would have gotten the answer she was looking for. Just not as cut and dried and she felt it should be.

Elizabeth was not dodging the questions, she was in the process of answering it. She also has the right to answer the question anyway she wants, regardless of the type of questions and how much wiggle room some people may think is there or not there.

It's there, she does say something like No, Rosie I don't think you believe our troops are terrorists. I missed it the first viewing but she did say answer her.

Ms. Hasselbeck is getting ready to further her career on Fox News so in order to do that, she must battle the Rosie.

She did get an invite to the White House when the Queen was there didn't she?

Oh yeah, real accurate, he "stole " the election? Are Americans really that dumb?

I must be...

In 2000, a clear majority of Americans voted for Al Gore. But the winner is determined by the Electoral College, so the winner in each state must be considered. The vote in Florida was so close that it took a month to declare a winner. Before Florida was declared, Gore led in the Electoral College with 266 votes to Bush's 246 votes. When Bush was declared the winner of Florida by 537 votes, he picked up 25 Electoral College votes which gave him the Presidency.

But Bush only won Florida because of poorly designed butterfly ballots that stole votes from Gore, and because his Florida campaign manager Republican Secretary of State Kathleen Harris and Governor Jeb Bush illegally removed 57,700 voters from the rolls. It is estimated that 90% of them were Democratic. So this represent thousands of votes stolen from Al Gore. If this crime had not been commited then Gore would be President.

No matter what you, believe about who really won, you must admit that the election was very close. So one would expect that Bush would respect the opinions and desires of the clear majority of Americans who voted for Gore and Nader. Yet Bush charges ahead, promoting a far right agenda that is repugnant to most Americans.

I"m watching it right now. Like I said earler Kathy Griffin is on. Not much to say except that Barbara is saying, in so many words, that is should have not been on air and that it was too peronal.

That's really it. The ten minutes I miised at 11am are over. Little time given to it.

Here's some scoop from someone that was in the audience yesterday, posted over at TWoP by a poster named RobbieLimeJello.

RobbieLimeJello at TWoP said:
I've been lurking on this board for months and have never posted. But I was in the studio audience yesterday so I thought I'd share some of what took place.

EH did leave the set immediately after her argument with Rosie. She came back right before Alicia Silverstone's segment. The ladies were still fighting at the couch until right before they came back from commercial.

While the whole EH/Rosie fight was going on, the stage managers and producers were holding up signs telling them to wrap it up. The studio audience seemed to love it though, so they stopped with the signs. Janette (Rosie's producer) was audibly screaming "STOP!" at Rosie

Rosie and Helene (her hairstylist) were arguing about something during one of the commercials. I couldn't hear Helene's side of the argument because Rosie is much louder, but Rosie was saying something like "I know that! Do you think I don't know that?"

Rosie confirmed that Monday's show is taped. Someone asked when she would be getting a vacation, and she said she was excited about her 4-day (now 5-day) weekend.

There was supposed to be a "post-tape" after the live show, but I think it was rescheduled due to what happened.

A woman in the audience asked sort of a weird question. She started off telling Rosie she was a huge fan, but then she went on to say something about how people who fight should be educated, that Rosie should read a book, and that we should be united rather than divided.

One of the most exciting things - right before Alicia Silverstone came out, EH said "You called me a bigot on your blog!" to which Rosie replied, "No I didn't. Someone else did... and you don't read my stupid blog anyway," which confirms that her recent blog entry was indeed about EH.

Rosie and EH pretty much ignored each other during the commercials, such as right before the DWTS segment.
