We bought the one that comes in the box and the book, that explains who he is, what he does and the powers he possesses. It has worked like a charm. This year, I found a small version that is the size of a small Christmas ornament and comes in a velvet bag that I plan on using when we travel (Trying to hide "Marvin" in the suitcase last year without them noticing him tucked in there was crazy!!) I plan on having Marvin leave a note for them the night we leave for WDW on the 6th telling the boys that Santa is giving him extra magical powers to shrink down to be small so that he can come to Disney World with them this year and not have to pay for a seat on the plane.
Ours came from the Hobby Lobby. He is about 12 inches tall and is cloth bodied. He is very friendly looking. I had a hard time finding what I wanted.
We got this guy last night. http://www.annalee.com/store/14-red-corduroy-elf.htmlI was thinking about doing them since last Christmas but wanted to get something different than all of the ones in stores that come with the books. I went online and got the story from the Elf on the Shelf website and included it in a letter Santa left for the kids this morning! My 7 year old is a little skeptical of the whole thing so Kringle may cause a little mischief tonight![]()
We have one elf per child that looks like them from Elf Magic (http://www.elf-magic.com/). Ours came with a letter introducing them and magic flakes to make them come alive each night. Our elves like to leave a few gifts during their stay (Christmas-themed books, ornament for each child, cocoa mugs/cocoa, flyers to Christmas events in town with giftcards for dinner after, Christmas Eve PJs). They also like to decorate, cook and play pranks (http://www.elf-magic.com/ideas.htm). Our elves arrive Black Friday morning and return to help Santa deliver gifts Christmas Eve morning.
