Does anyone know where I can see an elevation map for the marathon? I am guessing its a pretty flat course, but would like know for sure! Thanks

I think the elevation changes noted on the elevation chart are the freeway overpasses that one runs up/down during the marathon. I find the slant of the road to be the worst aspect of this race -- several areas you run on the ramp from the feeder road to the freeway ( I can't think of the names of the roads right now, sorry!). Anyway, these ramps have a significant angle to them. I tend to run on the side of the road in the grass to get off of the angle but it is a very unlevel surface. Doing the marathon didn't bother me as much as running the half on this surface and then the full the next day....(I do not train on asphalt which adds to my pains on race day.) Those are my thoughts about the course....popcorn::

Exactly!

Elevation map? its like this __________________ the worst hill is an overpass ramp and even that is really low.
Actually, its so flat that it can actually be tough on your legs if you haven't done a few flat runs. I trained for a flat race last year and my legs recovered much faster than the year before when I trained mostly with rolling hills.

Good Luck!

Some people's "low hills" are other people's mountains! ;) I for one will be happy with only one or two ramps/overpasses.

Being from South Florida where the only Mountain or hill is an overpass or bridge over a canal or waterway. These for me are killers. That is coming from someone who walks pretty much on flat terrain. I go to the local Mount Trashmore to get my "hill" work in.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the Half Course.... from what I remember, (The beginning of the course has changed a bit this coming year)The begining leading out to the main highway area from EPCOT has about2 overpasses then an exit ramp to the main street. When exiting the MK parking lot you go under a road, so alittle downhill and then alittle up hill. Heading to Contemporary you go under the 7 seas lagoon, so a bit bigger down hill and then up hill. Heading out of the MK, down the road back to EPCOT you go up a ramp and around over the overpass from where you just came from, then down hill, then Up a overpass and down, then turn to the right and Up another overpass and down into the EPCOT parking lot.

Thats what I remember,

I train on basically flat terrian too. I try to find inclines to practice running up and we even found a new park this fall that has more inclines.

I wanted to give you the Half Marathon Mile marker for that 1st hill on the way back to Epcot.

You will see the mile 10 Marker, cross under the bridge and then start up the ramp on your right which will curve and tilts a bit. Mile 11 didn't seem as bad, it seemed to be over faster than 10. The next incline finishes with the Mile 12 marker at it's base . You will see it coming as you are able to see the traffic going under it and you do a quick turn back to it and head up. Again it's a pretty quick up/down but it is leading you to Mile 12 Marker so your legs might not be as understanding on any of these 3 markers. LOL

From Miler Marker 10 on in just focus on YOU ARE SERIOUSLY ALMOST THERE! 3 Miles, piece of cake for you. The crowds are waiting, the photographers are waiting in Epcot so get those smiles ready and most importantly ...... the W tent is waiting with Wishers to welcome you home!!!! oh yes there is this piece of medal you get to pick up at mile 13.1 ;)

Can't wait to see everyone on the course!!!! Safe training wishes to all for the next couple of weeks. (well always but even more so now).

Regardless of which course, 5K, HM, Full, Goofy....POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!! SEE yourself doing the course, finishing the course!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Great advice...I am a South Floridian who is also training on the flatlands...

I always curse myself during those last 3.1 miles but envisioning crossing the finish always manages to work...

Oh, no! I have trained on those "rolling hills" we have around here. Course, I trained on those same hills for the ING and that race about killed me! Now those were hills! :lmao:

Poor DH has trained mostly at Kennesaw Mountain. Is he in trouble or what?!? :scared1:

We plan on running our 12 miler out on that trail by Northpoint in a couple weeks. Is that pretty flat Cecilia?

After just running the Weather Channel 1/2, that course is flat as a pancake; kind of like home. That's just awesome....it's what i'm used to.

Shan - Yes, as long as you stay on the Greenway trails you will be nice and flat. You will LOVE the difference! I don't think the "flat course fatigue" sets in until about mile 20 so you should be fine for the half but its still a good idea to get a flat run in just to see how it feels.
You might also consider the Silver Comet Trail as well.

Ed - You ran the Weather Channel 1/2??!! I ran that last year and I can remember being very angry with the guy that designed that course. I actually asked the other runners if we were going the right way cause who puts that kind of hill at the end of a marathon? Then a half mile later I was running under the olympic rings and said "ahhh now I understand"
