I have read all about the added security measures taken by the Airline industry but does anyone know what the plan is regarding electronic equip. on board the planes? :confused3

I'm wondering about our digital camers, DVD camcorder, portable DVD player, etc. I'm worried about losing any of these items if they have to be placed in checked luggage.

As for the 'hassles' of these new security measures, I welcome them, anything to protect us all in the sky is well worth the, I'm sure, minor headaches! :thumbsup2

I know that they are ok on "domestic" flights - not sure about flying from Toronto though!

I have been worrying about the same thing. We just bought DH a brand new high dollar digital camera so there is no way I want to check that. Plus we will have our video camera and a small point and shoot camera. I hope we will still be able to take them come our trip in late September.

Right now it appears the only flights in which electronic items may not be carried on are those originating in Great Britain.

Keep an eye on TSA and see what they come up with...they're only prohibiting liquids at the moment on US domestic flights. Check with whoever does that in Canada for you Canadians.

On flights from O'Hare to Denver today on United they were making passengers check cell phones, laptops and blackberries.

I was afraid of this happening! :guilty:

Anybody have any ideas for safeguarding these $$$ possessions in our checked baggage? Can we lock up these bags? :confused3

Best option would be to ship them to your resort and insure them. Then when you are ready to leave ship them back home with insurance.

Did they let the people pull their SIMM cards from the cell phones?

I hear this a lot but what I never see listed are digital cameras. Were they doing that too??

If we need to be checking valuable stuff now, the airlines have to change their policy and cover the valuable stuff that's now in their care. This is going to be a boon to the theivery that goes on behind the scenes. Ebay is going to become even more popular now. :(

here is the answer straight from TSA

Laptops, cell phones and other electronic items

Question
Media have also reported that laptops, cell phones and electronic items are no longer allowed. Is that true?

Answer
No. TSA continues to allow laptop computers, cell phones and other electronic items.

Oh, I hope it will be okay to bring our dig. camera/camcorder, etc. on the plane with us! I'd be sooo nervous wondering if the stuff would make it in 1 piece or make it at all!!! :guilty:

It's one of those things that we should call our carrier and ask. Even though TSA has said it's okay, each airline probably can go above that and say no.

I'm all for safety but it sure would be boring for my kids if they couldn't bring a Game Boy and port. dvd player. It's not like tossing out a bottle of shampoo at the gate either. Hopefully things will be better established by the end of Sept. when we fly. :confused3
I wish the media would get their facts straight before they report things.

Cheer up! The new regulations in the US seem to be slightly more generous than those in the UK. Virtually everything has to go in the hold as you can see from the link below:

I'm hoping that things will be back to normal by the time I fly, but I suspect some of these changes will become a permanent feature.

No issue with this carrier. I called Platinum Desk and they are NOT pulling any electronic items (just as long as their allowed on the plane; pre-incident rules and regulations).

Thank god I go American rather than United out of Ohare for business. All my electronics would be in half after all that business travel!
