My dad had a stroke last year and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about renting an electric wheelchair type thingy (more like the 3 wheeled ones you see on TV). I am trying to look at the Disney site, but their customer service site is down. Thanks!

I would ask on the disabilities board here. They will be able to give you lots of great advice.

WDW has 'em for rent by the HUNDREDS (or so it seems when WE are there.)

Lots of folks rent them and cruise around all the parks (and ride the rides, see the shows, run over FEET, etc.)

In the parks, you can rent an ECV (the motorized "cart" you are asking about). The ones in the parks have 4 wheels and are a bit bigger and more diffiuclt to manouver than the 3 wheeled types you see on TV. If you want one of those, you need to rent from one of the off-site rental companies.

You can't rent electric (power) wheelchairs in the parks or from any of the rental places. Power wheelchairs are the ones that are steered by using a joystick. They are a lot more expensive and take more practice to drive than ECVs, so the companies only rent them to people who already have one (but maybe prefer not to travel with it).

You can follow the link in my signature to get to the disABILITIES Board and then check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the board.

My last trip I found out that you can also have a wheelchair delivered to your hotel and it is yours for the duration of your stay... they deliver to guest services and you can use it on all the Disney busses... so that means you do not have to stand in line to reserve one, and stand in line to turn it in, to get your deposit and if you want to park hop you have to go to the next park and stand in line to get one, only if it is available... so if you are staying on Disney property it would be worth it to check them out... I spoke to many people and they were very happy with the service...

call 1-800-417-9496 or 407-877-3936 Lifeaire Medical Co...

hope this helps
