Electric Vehicles at the resort

I have a stay planned for October. I'm looking at renting a car. I can get a good rate on a mystery category. The vehicle is a hybrid or EV according to the description. I called Aulani and they have two charging stations for electric vehicles. Does anyone have experience with EVs at Aulani? Is this a good idea or should I go with a traditional car rental? TIA.

I've noticed the chargers in the garage at Aulani but don't have any experience with them.

If you want to run the risk of not being able to charge the vehicle while staying at Aulani, then go for it. Otherwise, rent a regular gas-powered car.

We rented an EV at Aulani when we went in April 2023 and it was the best decision - we had no problem finding space by the charger (which was also very close to the elevators) and did not need to charge every day anyway. Hopefully that's still the case. Also charging was free.

Other experiences with EVs at WDW in 2024 were not as great (rented an EV because it was so great at Aulani) :
Riviera- 2-4 spots were hogged by EVs that were done charging and one gas vehicle; then they didn't move their cars for days afterwards.
Animal Kingdom - 1 of 2 chargers was broken, the other was in use. Wasn't staying on site; we made it back on sparks.

If you have never driven an EV before, poke around on plugshare.com and see where charging is located on Oahu.

If you end up with a Tesla, there are three Supercharger stations on Oahu.

If you end up with a non Tesla here is the map.

The gray are stations that are either under construction or broken. The green are J1772, level 2 chargers, that would charge somewhere between 4 and 20 miles per hour depending on the station. You would need to plan to be at a level 2 charger for many hours. The orange are DCFC stations that will charge at 50+ miles per hour depending on the state of charge of the car and the capabilities of the station. You would plan to be at a DCFC station for 30-60 minutes. Each marker represents one or more connector.

You can click on each one and get a crowdsourced plugshare score. That score would give you an idea of how reliable the location is for charging.

If you end up with a Tesla, as long as the rental company includes the adapter you can use any of the green markers but not any of the orange markers.

Keep in mind that charging stations often do NOT have credit card acceptors. You will most likely need to download one or more apps and create multiple accounts. Many times you can get buy with just the ChargePoint app and use it to activate and pay for partner stations.

So, if that map is accurate, then that means that the chargers at Aulani are currently broken?

when i went before they had 20+ chargers. doubt it's broken more likely someone didn't update the maps
I just went on Plug Share they have 15 chargers available for level 2 and 13/15 tesla available so they have 30 (this is live)

They are not on the map. Plug share is all crowdsourced data. For private chargers, unless someone adds them to the map, they are not there.

If I use the ChargePoint app to look I can see there look to be 27 level 2 chargers at Aulani. Split between the public parking deck and the valet parking deck.

At this moment there are 2 in use.

Digging deeper the gray on the map I posted is at the Marriott and is gray because it is valet only. There are two there and they are both currently in use.
