Electric Standing Vehicles (ESV) at Disney - Major update Post #18

Ok I partially retract my statement. I see now why children are not allowed to rent ECVs from the parks. They are huge! It still surprises me that rental companies won't rent an ECV to children unless those types of ECVs are giant too. My experience has been with a pediatric sized scooter only so that's where I was coming from.

I know this is about a year and a half after your post but I was just reading this thread and had to say something. I'm 30 years old. I've been driving either a motorized scooter or a motorized wheelchair since the age of 5. I first started driving a motorized scooter at age 5 when we discovered it at the abilities expo. It completely changed my life. Before that we used a Maclaren stroller for distances that were too great for me to walk with crutches. For the average child, I probably would not condone renting a motorized scooter to a child. However, for a disabled child who is used to using motorized mobility devices at home and would like to rent one for use in a park, it really is a shame that the age limit to rent a device is 18. Seems pretty absurd to me but that's just my opinion.
There is not enough issue with children bringing and using their own ECVs in the park.

There are 2 issues with renting them.
First, it's a liability issue. Children can't sign and agree to a contract (which is one of the bigger issues) and the companies have chosen not to take on the extra liability of having minors driving them. There is one company, Randy's Mobility, which do sometimes rent ECVs to older teens on a one to one basis, after meeting with the child and parents.

The second issue is size. The park rental ECVs are very large and could not be adjusted to fit a child. Even some shorter adults and smaller adults find they are too big. Many of the rental companies carry smaller type ECVs, but many still can't be fit to a child.

That makes sense I guess. Yeah, that's why I partially retracted my statement. I didn't realize how huge those scooters were!
