My mom has had an EFP for a few years, but I think it died. The 'fake log area" can be removed. So I am wondering if I can just buy an insert or would it be more cost effective to buy a new fire place?

depends on what broke. Maybe it was just a circuit breaker that popped? or the light bubs inside. I have looked at them and most are a few hundred dollars and up!!

But if I can not toast marshmallows on it, it is just a tease. Hehehehehee

Our neighbor just bought one of the Amish-built electric fireplaces from heatsurge.com ($297) and it's pretty nice. It's on the small side, but they have wood add-ons to raise it or expand the size. It works with a couple light bulbs and a small fan that blows the heat from the light bulbs out. It can take the chill out of a small room, but your marshmallows will still have be to eaten untoasted. We may get one for our lanai.

may I ask how long it took the company to deliver it to your neighbor?
