Someone mentioned that a fun thing to do is rent an electric car on Key West. So now the obvious questions for those who have done this...
- From where/who did you rent?
- Do you take the thing on the main roads? If so, how was it contending with larger "real" cars?
- Was driving around the attraction for you or did you visit other attractions? If the latter, how was it to find parking?

I appreciate any insights you can provide.

Hi there,
One of the places you can rent the Electric cars is from Key West Cruisers which has 4 locations in Key West and one of them is close to Mallory Square.
They rent by the hour, day or week and they are open 7 days a week - I do not have an 800 number for them, but their local number is 305-294-4724 - now Phil/Sandy have always promised that IF anyone from the Disboard mentioned my name and The Perfect Gift, that they would be give local rates.
If they have ever extended this kindness, I do not know, but you can give it a try - if there is a problem, just give me a call here at the shop at 800-950-4559 ----Norm and I are hoping to get home soon and I will check with them while I am down there.
Good luck
Always
Shirley

ps these cruisers can be driven anywhere in Key West - parking is hard regardless if you are in a car, scooter or even a bike --trying to find a parking place is like trying to find an ol' original conch still living there :teeth:

You do not need a reservation in advance. The have plenty of cars, if there isn't a car at the site you stop at, they will give you a ride to the next closest site that has a car available.

They are excellent to rent from. You drive on the main roads, traffic in key west is very slow, very laid back. No problems parking, you park in regular parking areas, just like cars, a little easier though since you are smaller, lol.

We rented right on the corner of the large hotel/resort at one duval street. Very close to the dock. Our rental only took 1/2 the time we thought to check out all the places we wanted, and when we come back, they said, no problem, changed the price and we were good to go. We drove to southern most point, Bo's fish market and had a snack, the sotille gallery, hemingways house and did the tour, made a few other stops and the turned the car back in to finish on foot. They give you a map, phone number to call if there are any problems at all. We loved it, and would definately do it again. A great way to see key west.

We were just in Key West this week on the cruise.....we rented the cars...very cool by the way. for 75.00 for 3 hours....just mention the buy two hours get one free coupon. They were a blast...the kids loved it!!!

Do you know what the name of the business that you rented from was? Or location...anything to know where you got the $75 deal??

The little car booths all seem to be connected..there are many sites.

I will need to dig out the papers but we rented from the place right across from sloppy joes. On the side street. The cars are painted with dolphins and manatees. Very cute! don't rent right on the dock as their prices are much higher! :earsgirl:

They have both 2 seaters and 4 seaters. If you plan on exceeding the limit, do not mention it...Mark

I believe there are also 6 seaters too. We did squeeze 5 into a 4 seater but definately didn't mention that!

As I recall, the cars were originally touted as a slick alternative to regular automobiles that would alleviate the parking problems in the city of Key West. That is, before the city got a good look at how big they are and decided they have to park in designated spots like a regular automobile. I haven't been in one, but they look like they'd be a lot of fun and practical to tour the island if you have smaller children. As for me, my wife and I always have a lot of fun in the Keys, Jamaica, and the Bahamas renting a regular scooter and zipping around with the warm wind blowing through our hair and between our toes and the sun shining down on us. Talk about forgetting the real world --
