Interestingly enough I work for a company that owns over a thousand convience stores across the country and we sell beer in wine everywhere we can legally. We are affected by laws that were enacted in conjunction with the laws that shut down bars and liquor stores on election day. The first one is that in many states beer cannot be sold on credit. This applies even to a major chain of stores buying from a large wholsaler. It means cash, check or money order on delivery. The reasoning is that supposedly political candidates in large cities would say he would buy a drink for every person that would vote for him. He would set up the deal with the local bars. Then after he was elected, he would "forget" to pay the bill.
