El Rio Del Tiempo Refurb?

According to the Disboards homepage, El Rio Del Tiempo is going to be down for four months

"El Rio del Tiempo - Closed for refurbishment 1/2/07 - 4/1/07 - reopening 4/2/07"

Does anyone have any more details about this? I have heard they are going to add the Three Caballeros to it. Are there any confirmed updates?

it is the only original attraction at Epcot that has yet to recieve any small updates and refurbishems.

That ride in Mexico is truly a hidden gem...we enjoy it alot but some of the "movies" were quite dated. Especially the ones where the American tourists are in the bar and the street sellers hawking their wares.....can't wait to set sail in June

I think the video of the people in the hot tub is the funniest! Hope that it's awesome when they're done. It's a nice cool ride.

I love this ride too. My DD12 and I will ride this two times in a row without getting off sometimes, if the CM allows it.

I rode this ride on Dec 30 of last year. I actually had to wait for 7 minutes and 35 seconds to board!!! I love this ride too.

I like the ride too. Its soooo nice and relaxing especially on a hot day. My favorite scene is the fireworks one at the end.

I LOVE this ride too! Definitely a classic! I, too, enjoy all of the old style video footage with the swimmers and the peddlers. My fovorite scene though is the first one (some of which you can see from the whole pavilian) with the deep blue sky and the volcano. So beautiful!

We love this ride...I think that an addition of the Three Cabelleros would be great for it though....I wonder if that is what they are going to do?

What about those horrible Incan/Mayan/Aztec gods at the beginning? You'd think they would have updated the film at some point!

I think the best part of this ride is right at the beginning when you go past the restaurant and volcano. I love that part.

Sorry. Not a big fan of this one. I'll have to check it out though after the refurb.

All I can say is it's about time they refurbish this one! I always ride it, as I do all of the Disney rides, but it's in serious need of some help. The nice thing about it is that you can usually walk right on.............this may not be true in the future!

Okay, it probably does need a little clean-up but PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THE MUSIC!!!! You all know the song I speak of. The one that gets stuck in your head. For the rest of your day. Even when you're not at DisneyWorld. Yep, it's stuck in my head right now and it isn't leaving anytime soon.

"Around spring of 2006, rumors began to spread that Disney is working on upgrading El Rio del Tiempo in time for Epcot's 25th anniversary celebration in 2007. This hypothesized all-new version of the ride will be themed based on the characters from the 1944 Disney film The Three Caballeros, including Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles. Some have pointed out, however, that Jose Carioca is a Brazilian character, which would put Disney in the strange position of having an American, a Mexican, and a Brazilian host the Mexican pavilion."

Interesting point. It seems strange to have an American, a Mexican and a Brazilian hosting a ride in Mexico's pavilion.

Also, it seems like the Three Caballeros rumors have been around for awhile. Perhaps, they are just cleaning it up and doing some maintainence.

I love the music in the ride.

im so upset! i just booked my trip for jan 16th and this is one of my FAVORITES! its bad enough splash mountain is gonna be closed while im there.. but el rio del tiempo!?!?!?!?! IM GONNA CANCEL MY TRIP!!! not.. hehe but im SUPER bummed

So we ARE going to have a celebration of Epcot's 25th anniversary!?!?!?!?! Oh now I'm pumped!!

Oh by the way, we also love this ride. I can't wait to see the new version.
