El Nino be damned.. Just booked for December

Native CA here.. Just booked our trip for 12-19 thru 12-24. El Nino be damned, we're going! Can you all tell me what rides are closed when it rains. Thanks!

Teacups and Alice. If it rains hard enough or there is lightning, they will close Screamin'. If there is too much wind, Golden Zephyr will close. Parades get cancelled. Fantasmic can get cancelled if the stage becomes slippery and wet for the performers. I think the same can happen to Mickey's Magical Map.

Oops. Yeah. Forgot that one. We got to ride one during a light sprinkle, but that seems to be as wet as they let it get when running that ride.

We went to DCA in a big storm last year and thought we'd get to ride TSMM a bunch of times without a wait. Wrong. It might be an indoor attraction, but it flooded. Go figure.

We will be out there almost the exact same time. Last time we went we got some pretty heavy rain. RSR was closed off and on the whole time. No point in even waiting in line because it would open/close randomly. Some people spent their whole day trying to get on it. Plan for eating as well - everything gets soaked. You're going to want indoor eating if you don't like soggy food. The other rides people have mentioned were also closed.

Here's the thing we didn't plan on though - YOU will get soaked. Your clothes, jackets, strolled, bags - whatever you have, is going to get completely soaked. We brought jackets and thought we would be fine. NO. Miserable, wet, and cold. Poncho's help, but in a sustained rain, they can only do so much. Every time you sit your legs and butt will get soaked. This year we are going to bring some real rain suits, covering tops like a jacket, and bottom like rain pants.

Take my advice, plan for that. You'll be better off than 90 percent of people who's only plan in the poncho.

I'm glad you posted this because this is what I have been saying on this board -- the kind of rain that comes along in an El Nino year is not typical rain. It's not a light rain. It's what you described, but so, so much worse if it is a strong El Nino. A poncho won't cut it in that kind of rain. Things will flood. Everything will be soaked. You will be sitting in puddles all day long. A lot of people think they can tough it out, but then will end up indoors.

Not all rain is El Nino-related rain, of course. But during one year when there was El Nino rain, my friends and I could barely see two feet in front of us as we tried to walk through Downtown Disney because the rain was coming down so hard. We only walked from one shop to another shop and we were soaked in a few minutes.

I'm sure that Disney is hoping that the rain won't be that bad, as not only will it drive business down, but it will inevitably delay prep work that has to be done before they can begin working on Star Wars Land/Galaxy/whatever it is called.

We are going in the first couple of weeks of Dec. And I am looking forward to it. Even if it does pours...Some rainy pictures of main street could look awesome.
