Eggs-plaining the Egg-stravaganza -- The 2016 Hunt Is Over!!!

I'm particularly interested to see how the DTD/hotel portion of the hunt plays out between March 2nd and March 27th. Although I'm sure that Disney ordered many more maps this year, since the Egg-stravaganza is going to last more than twice as long as it lasted in the past, the fact that non-park guests will also have access to the DTD segment should mean that those maps could sell out much more quickly. At the same time, I wonder if people who don't particularly follow Disney news and events that closely will know there is an egg hunt happening in DTD. Most likely, if the DTD leg of the hunt is anything like the DL and DCA sections, some of the eggs will be very visible and out in the open for all to see. People passing through DTD would probably see at least a couple of them, and even more of them if they went into the Disney-specific shops.

Now the eggs at the hotels, on the other hand, could be more out of the way of the general flow of DTD traffic and not as obvious unless people actually know to look for them. I can think of all kinds of places where very large eggs could be hidden at the 3 hotels (like, for example, around the geyser area at the DLH), but I tend to think that they will probably not be very hidden at all.

The Egg-stravaganza begins tomorrow, and the Disneyland Resort website still doesn't have any updated info about it that I can see -- https://disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/spring/. Unless I am looking in the wrong place on the site, there is nothing to indicate that the event is beginning tomorrow, nor anything about Downtown Disney being included in it this year. They've had plenty of time to update it. Strange.

We are doing our first DL egg hunt this weekend. I am looking forward to it. We will be going all three.

I have been looking on the blog as well as the DL website for more information and I am sad that they have not had any. I also do not like the new layout of the blog.

Have a great week!

I haven't seen any information about it other than on the hours page. That is how I found out about it and that is why I came here looking for information!

I thought I liked the look of the new Parks Blog layout on the day it debuted -- mainly because it was more consistent with the look of the general Disney Parks sites. However, the more I have gotten used to it, the less I like it! :lmao: The text (people's comments) is harder to read than it was on the old site. The comments are not numbered like they were on the old site, and I liked the numbering. Unless you know how to work around it, when you comment your entire name will be displayed -- and I think that people should have the choice whether or not to display their full names. I also like that the old site had the changing photos at the top of the page.

I think the Parks Blog gave the most important info in their original blog about the Egg-stravaganza event a couple of weeks ago, but the thing is that unless people saw that blog they might not have any clue the event was happening. A lot of people don't follow the Parks Blog. So the Disneyland Resort website should have the basic info up -- like at least to tell people that it will be happening in each park and in DTD, if nothing else.

Disneyland Resort is so bad about releasing info and putting it on their website in advance, and sometimes -- even when it is up -- the info may not be consistent across several different Disney info outlets. One info source may mention one date for something, while another source names another date. The dates are usually consistent, but there have been occasions in the past when they were not.

I had to call the AP number to ask a question about APs, and while I had that Cast Member on the phone I told her that the DLR website has no info about the Egg-stravaganza. She went to the Springtime section that I linked above and saw that there was nothing. And then she said, "Well, maybe it's on the app..." And then she said that it's probably not on the DLR site because the DLR website is more focused on the year-round, permanent info whereas Disney is really pushing its social media outlets for relaying more up-to-the-minute and limited run event details. She did agree that at least the very basic info about the event should be up on the DLR website.

I said, "It IS starting tomorrow, isn't it? If I get down to Disneyland and find out that it has not begun, I might cry right there at the turnstiles."

She assured me that it IS starting tomorrow, despite the lack of any info on the DLR site.

Thank you! Do you know what the best store is to get the maps in Disneyland? I was wanting to do Disneyland first and have that be our first stop.

The Disneyana and Disney Showcase stores are right there when you get into Town Square. Disney Showcase is where I got my Disneyland map in the past, and that's where I will get it again. That's also where the prizes will be in Disneyland (in case you want to collect your prize right at the moment you get your map instead of waiting until you finish hunting), so it's a one-stop shop sort of deal!

In California Adventure I will get the map at Elias & Co. Although Oswald's has maps too and is closer to the DCA entrance, I will go to E&C because I might want to collect my prize right up front and that's where the prizes will be.

As for the Downtown Disney/hotel leg of the hunt, World of Disney is where the prizes will be, so that would be a good place to get the maps too. However, I think I might get my map at one of the hotel shops instead, and then just come back to WoD to get my prize later in the day.

How egg-citing that the Egg-stravaganza is officially starting tomorrow. Everyone get your bunny ears on. I look forward to reading of egg-cellent fun-filled adventures :) I'm planning on hopping to DL for the hunt next Wednesday the 9th.

Recently I was reading someone's comments/thoughts about his Egg-stravaganza experience last year (or maybe the prior year) -- it wasn't on this site, but I think it might have been on MiceChat or Mouse Planet -- and he brought up an interesting point. He said that he prefers to go on a day that is less busy, because he found that when he did the Egg-stravaganza on a really busy day, there was no mystery as to where the eggs were located. He said that he'd see groups of people gathered around certain spots and he knew that they were all looking at an egg. It took away some of the 'discovery' and fun of it when he couldn't find any of the eggs on his own because the groups of people gave it away.

I should say that the last time I did the egg hunt I did not run into the same "groups of people" problem, though I did run into the problem of (very annoying) people inching into my personal space to see an egg (which I described on page 1 of this thread) instead of waiting their turn. It was not massively crowded on the day I went, and maybe the Egg-stravaganza wasn't as popular at that point, whereas now it is. So now that more people are doing the egg hunt, AND the parks are busy so much of the time, there are more chances for the "groups of people" dead giveaway scenarios than there were in the past.

So the hotel gift shops will carry the DTD maps? Thank you!

Yes -- Mickey in Paradise at the PPH, Acorns Gifts & Goods at the GCH and the Fantasia Shop at the DLH will carry the DTD maps, but not the prizes. In DTD you can find DTD maps at D Street, WonderGround Gallery, Disney Pin Traders and Anna & Elsa's Boutique. World of Disney is the only place that will have the DTD maps and prizes.

We have a bout a day and a half to find them and get the prize. I am excited for this trip. Hopig for more information on spring time or something. Have you seen anything on the App?

I don't have the app, but I don't think any other info has come out yet. I'm not sure that there will be too many Springtime activities happening. This year the Egg-stravaganza is starting so much earlier than usual, and since there is no Springtime Roundup then I tend to wonder if the Disney rabbits and the Easter Bunny might appear a bit later in the month, like closer to Easter. I don't know if any of the CMs in the park will know -- probably not -- but we can always ask when we get there. Other than that, I don't think the egg decorators/artists will be set up anywhere this year, and if they are then it would probably be later in the month as well.

I am looking forward to seeing those gorgeous pink trees at the Hub. They were not there the last time I was at DLR for the Egg-stravaganza. They add such a nice spring-y pop of color to Disneyland. Maybe one day we will get our own Flower & Garden Festival.

Just in case I don't get a chance to check in here again before I leave... when I get home I will report back with any observations or noteworthy points about the Egg-stravaganza. I will also keep watch for any spring-y characters (though I think it might be too early for them to be out) and spring-y/Easter-y snacks and treats.

I'll actually be at Disneyland the next 3 days (checked in today at our hotel). I'd like to do all the maps, but we'll see how intrested my kids are. I LOVE Easter! I wish Disney would do more to celebrate, like Tokyo Disney.

Egg hunt complete! So much fun!! Off to collect our prize! I have pictures of the egg spots. Should I upload them or wait?

Yes Please. :D Of course we want to see your pictures.

Did you get to pick your egg prizes, or are they doing the "choose a mystery egg from under the plastic half-egg" thing again this year?

Also, any sightings of Mickey and Minnie in their Easter costumes or of any of the rabbits who used to be present at the Easter roundup at the Ranch?

Thanks!!! :D

Here now! Got 2 eggs in Disneyland left to find. It's fun! My 6 yo loves it. The lady who sold me my map at Disneyana also told me this year you can choose the egg you want when you're done. :)
